@GrapheneOS Do the patches in the previous release (2025090500) include the fix for CVE-2025-36899 (the vulnerability in the secure element according to the Pixel Update Bulletin)? Thank you for the great work!

Watermelon It depends on what they mean. We started with the SoC firmware, cellular radio firmware and kernel drivers. Firmware shipped as part of the vendor image rather than as part of the dozen separate firmware images on the SSD is being included today. We're also going to try to include all of the driver/HAL patches for components listed in the Pixel bulletin so we can raise the official patch level.

The GrapheneOS account posted an informative thread about a change that lowers Android security and affects all Android OEMs.

I'm wondering if people with stock Android Pixels could easily receive those patches through a "beta" release channel.

We're allowed to make a release with currently available revision of the December 2025 Android security patches right now but we wouldn't be allowed to publish sources. Therefore, we'd need to do this separately from regular GrapheneOS. We could special release channels for it with delayed tags...

Could the "special release channels" used as countermeasures become stable channels with new names that comply with the new embargo?

GrapheneOS The next release may only have all of the firmware rather than driver/HAL patches since progress is slower than expected due to being down developers and needing to continue work on improving our device support automation to fix some Android 16 regressions, prepare for Android 16 QPR1, etc.

franc I am also under the impression that the endurance of my 6a's battery has been reduced lately, although Mother Google told me that I had nothing to fear about that.

Eirikr70 you can check max charging capacity using aBattery, mine is showing 2684mah when 100% charged, definitely reduced.

It was fully fine before at 4040/4410mah 92% health before Saturday's Alpha update.... I believe this has to do with the QPR1 pre-update that was released..
Barely doing 3h SOT now.

Quantum Using original charger since day 1, having adaptive charging turned on, charging from 30/40%+ , yes its fully possible and battery was working with flying colors.

Regarding the battery limitation, yes the new software update 202509600 has officially limitated/reduced the capacity on affected Pixel 6a matching the official Pixel OS update, this should have already affected many other Pixel 6a users.

8% wear from the design capacity of 4410 mAh after 1250 cycles is pretty good, but they are talking about the "new locked" capacity of 2684 mAh, which is ₃₉% down from the original/design capacity.

franc It only impacts the subset of Pixel 6a devices with a battery detected as faulty. Not all of the original devices shipped with a battery now considered faulty due to a fire hazard. It won't impact devices with the battery replaced with a working one. People with their battery detected as faulty should get it replaced, ideally with their free replacement program, or take the cash and get it replaced another way.
