"Phone 9m" lockscreen --what's that? And, auto updates only on demand.

When I pressed the Start button a prompt showed "Phone 13h" just under the Time widget. I tapped the "down" and then "Manage" and entered my PIN. Got a whole list of stuff about notifications.

What's that, what's it doing and how do I turn it off?

There was an update this morning when I unlocked the phone that began installing and verifying immediately. Is there an option to "check for but do not download Updates" ? We are out in the boonies and pay for Cell minutes. I need to allow updates when we get into Town. I looked through Settings but found nothing that looked like that.

hardtimes You can set the System Updater to Unmetered networks instead of Any networks. It won't currently check for updates without also downloading and installing but we plan to add support for it.

I had seen that but it suggested to me that it is any-and-all-thing so I set it to "Not roaming" as we are out in the boonies (locally owned tower) and always Roaming here and it costs actual money, $0.20/minute.

A bit of urgency on the "plan to add support" would be good. ;)

It is also possible to sideload updates via USB.

Thanks, but that "unmetered" term seemed to suggest to me any-connection and that might also be the local tower which charges $020/min.

It needs to be a definitive option as the @GrapheneOS comment above alludes to adding at some point.
