The option cannot be changed in the Organic Maps settings, resulting in having no voice navigation when I run the app. I did download RHVoice. Any ideas on how to get this to work?
Organic Maps app voice instructions are "not available"
i think you have to go to sound settings on the phone or accessibility settings and make sure that RHVoice is activated. Then make sure that you have downloaded a language pack. I just did it but have not tried it out.
I was able to install voice instructions in Organic Maps by doing the following:
- Install Organic Maps
- Install RHVoice
- Open RHVoice and install a language
- Enable Talkback in Settings > Accessibility
- Exit the tutorial and disable Talkback
- Settings > Accessibility > Text-to-speech output
- Make sure RHVoice is configured there
- Open Organic Maps and the setting for voice instructions can be enabled.
If this doesn't work for you, let me know.
In F-Droid RHVoice is marked with "non-free add-ons" and "non-free network services". Does someone know more why and if this is a big deal?
matchboxbananasynergy Thank you so much, it worked. What a strange way to make it work, lol
cjn2111 Glad to hear it worked out for you. Happy to help!
So far I'm unable to get this to work. When I go to text-to-speech output, I choose RHVoice for preferred engine. Language is set to 'Use system Language'. If I change it to one of the two languages I downloaded (English US and English Russian) the settings app crashes. If I leave that setting alone, I can't change speech rate or pitch, its disabled. Is that normal?
I did the talkback tutorial briefly before exiting.
The option in Organic maps is still disabled for turning on voice instructions.
Any ideas on what I can try?
Thanks.
I followed these same instructions and no dice

The above instruction doesn't work. Voice recognition works fine with Magic Earth though. Don't have any Google services installed. RHVoice is installed and configured according to the above instruction.

This steps seems to work.
When you install RHVoice download some voice you want, than go to its settings just play arround a bit with the voice you want to use, test it from the RHVoice settings by increasing a bit volume for example in the app.
Than I was able to enable it in the Accessibility menu as said by matchboxbananasynery
It works when you see in the Accessibility>Text to speech output menu after selecting RHVoice and the language options to Play it.
Note: after downloading language you can remove network permissions, but it needs sensors access to work...
