Is there a link to send to app developer about Play Integrity API?

I'm using the app MacroFactor. Recently it's failing the integrity check. I contacted the dev and got a standard response about vpns, alternate OSs, etc...

Is there a page/link somewhere that I can point the dev to so they can understand what they can do to solve this. I am NOT qualified to write about it. know what it is, but not how it all works.

What do you mean? How do you know this? And where is this happening?

If they have added it to their app, I think they'd be checking Play Integrity verdicts and would have explicitly programmed the app to behave a certain way depending on those verdicts.

Or, do you mean their app doesn't show up in Google Play? I think they can change which devices their app is available to by following instructions found here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/7353455

They added a new function to the app that doesn't work for me. Something that imports recipes from outside web sites. I reached out to them about it, they responded with this...

"Thanks for reaching out.
On Android devices, an AI integrity check is required, which can fail if you have anything on your device which interferes with Google services. This can include use of a VPN, a de-Googled phone, an alternate OS or app store, or similar. Is it possible that any of these apply in your situation?"

Made sense to me that it's the play integrity thing getting in the way.

I thought I came across something, somewhere, months ago, that explained to the dev a about how graphene is secure and how they can whitelist Graphene...

I just installed it quickly to test it out:
Pixel 9 Pro | Build: 2025072800 | MacroFactor App version 5.2.3, installed via sandboxed Google PlayStore | Owner Profile

When I start the app, I get the following error message: "MacroFactor tried to perform DCL via memory" and the app crashes.

After allowing DCL via memory via App info> Dynamic code loading via memory the app starts without any errors.

During setup (after clicking on “Let's get started”), I get a notification "MacroFactor used the Play Integrity API".

Nevertheless I'm able to set up the app (Basics, Goal, Program) and get to “Choose a plan."

Since there is no free plan and I don't want to subscribe to a trial, I can't test any further.

But till that point, everything seems to be working fine.

I'm sorry I keep leaving out important info..

Yes that is the app. I've been using the app successfully for probably a year. I allowed DCL at the first run of the app. I pay for the app annually.

The developer added that recipe import option about a week ago. You use it by copying a the link to a recipe, say something on foodnetwork.com, then pasting it into the app. The app is supposed to then "use AI" to import the data from the recipe into the app.

It doesn't work for me. I keep getting an error about "can't complete at this time..". So I contacted the dev and got the response I wrote about before.

I thought I'd come here first and ask around before I contacted the dev again.

I just don't know the best way to approach this with the developer. I will continue using the app even if this one function doesn't work. If there is a work around, I'd like to point them in the right direction. I also don't want to come off as rude.

This may or may not be due to Play Integrity. You are jumping to a conclusion.

It is likely that only the developer could tell you the exact problem, if they were willing to spend time figuring it out.

If you are using a VPN, disabling it would be an easy thing to try. If you installed the app from Aurora or somewhere else, try installing from Play Store.

If the developer is using a third party AI library (likely), they might not be able to do anything about it even if they wanted to.

Yeah .. I'm not using VPN and I got it from the Play Store.

I'll reach out to them again and see what they say

They responded again with a very generic reply stating that they do not support GrapheneOS.

I'm just not going to use the new function they added.

I use this app too and have done for the last year or so. Unfortunately the AI image scanning doesn't work on Graphene and as you've pointed out neither does the new recipe import, which is annoying.
The main issue in my logs for these features appears to be about connecting to Firestore, but I don't know enough at this time for that to help me.

At least it's not something that I really needed. I've been doing fine without the AI stuff.
