Starting GOS Journey

Greetings,

I just bought a Pixel a few minutes ago and am very eager to start on this GOS journey. It arrives today.

Does anyone have any tips or pitfalls to avoid? (Content transfer, Contacts, pictures, ensuring I don't accidentally brick the device.. etc) I remain quite nervous

P.S. Can anyone confirm if Samsung Pay through their smartwatches works on GOS?

You cannot brick the device or harm it with the web installer. For the web installer, read through it at least once prior to starting. Just so you know what to expect.
Contacts can be exported from most platforms and apps as a VCF file. Pretty much everything will have to be manually transferred.

bigdata It's a good idea to avoid running the battery down to zero, especially when the system is storing data, especially especially when the system is updating. Plus it's physically bad for the battery. System Updater has some toggles to restrict when updates happen. That said, if you are using GrapheneOS to improve security and privacy, falling behind on system updates increases risk.

You cannot restore a Google One backup to a Graphene OS phone; dont use google one for your backups/transfering. Also check out https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/21487-seprand-articles-and-guides-about-grapheneos-by-the-community

youtube.com/watch?v=ik0AiO0WtuU This video shows sideofburrito (useful youtuber for GrapheneOS tips) trying to brick a GrapheneOS install and failing. Also I have a Galaxy watch 6 and managed to install my card on it via the Galaxy app on my GrapheneOS phone; as usual though you will need to install Play Services and the Play Store in order to do that.

I think it's between a pixel watch or a galaxy watch right now to handle NFC payments

Web installer procedure itself is indeed easy (you just have to press a few buttons) but read the prequisites carefully.
