jet_silver What a huge step in the necessary device support and yet the devs continue to rock a stable and performant OS. Thanks. Bunches of thanks.
Lucario1829 ErnestThornhill yeah, but this initial android 16 release is going through an additional sideload-only experimental phase right now, might be a while before it even hits alpha
ErnestThornhill Lucario1829 I'm aware. I was quoting the website since it seemed the user was not aware of the release process.
JustBeginnez It took quite a while to boot the first time, but I was able to side boot successfully. Pixel 7a is working fine now.
raccoondad JustBeginnez what's it like UI wise compared to stock Pixel? My favorite part of android version upgrades is the UI changes 0>0
n2gwtl I wonder if all GOS features have been migrated to A16 or if they will be rolled out in stages after A16 is released.
userofgos GrapheneOS an incredible feat! Props to the GOS Devs for their hard work and determination.
GrapheneOS raccoondad There aren't many UI changes in Android 16. Most of the new UI features are coming in Android 16 QPR1 and tech media has misrepresented them as Android 16 features. Quarterly releases are as large as yearly releases since Android 14 QPR2 and they're making huge changes in quarterly releases now too. It was a quarterly release which moved 6th, 7th and 8th gen Pixels to the Linux 6.1 LTS branch as an example of a huge under the hood change they've never even done in a yearly release before.
raccoondad GrapheneOS Most of the new UI features are coming in Android 16 QPR1 Is there any docs on the planned UI changes?
avaluedcustomer raccoondad Here is a write-up: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/06/android-16-review-post-hype/
GrapheneOS mar2112 It's not in Alpha yet. The next release we're building now should reach Alpha. We had to work around an occasional system service crash on Exynos 5400 devices (9th generation other than Pixel 9a) which didn't seem to cause any issues but we don't want to get flooded with reports about it from Alpha testing. There are some other issues we'll need to fix before Beta and Stable.
DeletedUser337 GrapheneOS Wow! Initial Android 16 already here can not believe it. I have learn so much, and open mind about Privacy and Security perspectives from GrapheneOS community. I just read somewhere GrapheneOS team just only have less than 10 people, but you guys in my eyes are incredible talents! Can not wait for future bright of the OEM first GrapheneOS smartphones.
locked Again, The GoS team stepping up to the plate. Always doing things others can't, or simply are not willing to!
Murcielago Wow, blazing fast - considering the challenges you had to overcome. Keep up your great work!
DeletedUser355 Great work! This doesn't even feel like a long time comparing to mainstream OS releases. Feels so good to know that GrapheneOS maintains such high standards even in challenging times like this :)
SIGSEGV can i ask, in broad terms, what does pixel device support include, that was removed from aosp? feels like that if therr is any code for proprietary hardware - then support for new devices would be impossible to implement, no?
NetRunner88 GrapheneOS Devs are hot, that's why we have a heat wave after all 😂 Awesome work ! Big thanks for this 😎
