It always feels weird to give google money to decouple myself from the google ecosystem on my phone. But grapheneos is the best for security and privacy on phones besides linux phones, but there are no good linux phones, and grapheneos only works on pixels, so pixels it is.
I like them less now that i'm on my second one, my first one's battery capacity just sorta suddenly became shit and I had to buy a new one cuz my old one was always running out of battery in like half a day. Smells like planned obsolescence to me.
So now I know that I cannot reasonably expect a pixel phone to last more than 3 years because google is a garbage company (who would have guessed?)
I heard there are oneplus phones that have this security chip that grapheneos requires somewhere; it'd be nice if grapheneos supported some phones that weren't made by the company most of us want to avoid. Giving them money makes me feel dirty, but the choice is between feeling dirty for giving google money, or having an unacceptably privacy and security compromised device around me at all times.
It's not a choice.
