Buy a Pixel 6 Pro just to use it for 1 Year ??? That also doesn't seem a good Idea if we talk Device Support.

It's true the Table lists OEM minimum support end (it could be more), but still ...

Google Pixel 7 Pro: 320 EUR (255 EUR for "Good" [lowest Grade] instead of "Excellent" Grade) (Support until October 2027)

Google Pixel 6a: 180 EUR (Support until July 2027)
Google Pixel 6 Pro: 275 EUR (Support until October 2026)
Google Pixel 6: 190 EUR (Support until October 2026)

But not sure when you got your Google Pixel 6. It might have been another Thing if you got it 1 Year ago, then it would have 1 Year Extra of Support.

"Good" on that Refurbished Website I was checking is like the lowest Grade, not sure if it's a Good Idea going that Path (probably way too many Scratches etc).

luckylinux "beater" phone, something I don't treat with the utmost care. "Navi" - I use it for the maps on my bike (handlebars vibrate, I don't want OIS in my main phone to get destroyed).

I didn't go for refurbished, as I suggested it's not even my main phone. I got it exactly for the reason you consider yours: to try GOS. And I just got mine off eBay, from the random company.

...and you could probably sell yours once you decide to upgrade.
As I said, it's your decision. Sure I'd prefer 8 to be my main/permanent phone. Your mileage may vary.

Not sure if worth going with Private Purchase off eBay.

Typically Sellers in the EU have to provide at least 1 Year of Warranty. Private Sellers don't.

I could see the Google Pixel 7 Pro at 225-250 EUR in Good Condition (and probably a bit lower with some Offers & Negotiation).

I paid not far off that for the 6a about 18 months ago... Haven't used the newer models but it seems like there's been a lot of improvements to the hardware in the 8 and 9 series

FaberCastell One Advantage of buying second Hand (besides Price) though would be getting a Google Pixel 6 Pro / 7 Pro which has a bigger Display Screen than the 7a/8a/9a do.

Which to be honest is one of my biggest complains on e.g. the iPhone 15 (besides the Software): big Fingers don't really go along well with small Phones (6.1'') :/. And the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro that I have is 6.67'' and that's quite comfortable to use I'd say. Looking back at when I had the Moto G4 / G5 Plus I wonder how I could even use those ....

luckylinux Since I don't want to enumerate my entire Homelab on the Public DNS, I would need Android to query my DNS Server over Wireguard VPN, if I wanted to access a Host in my Homelab.

That's one of the main Points I'm not too sure about if any Android would allow that.

Yes you can do this on android (including GrapheneOS) exactly the same way you do on an iPhone, just specify your local DNS server(s) in the Wireguard app and you are good to go.

As I said it just did NOT work on the Android of Xiaomi RedMi, so it's not so much of an "Obiously it works" kind of Answer. Strangely enough I can receive Notifications from HomeAssistant so the VPN seems to work in one Direction, but not the other. Maybe it's Routing in general that's the Issue and not so much only the DNS. I tried to troubleshoot but it didn't make any Sense.

The only secure options are expensive, it's either iPhones or Pixels, no in-betweens. You can always get a refurbished device.

Turns out the Seller of the Google Pixel 7 Pro cancelled the Sale :(. Oh well, I will only got the Google Pixel 6 Pro instead.

In the Meantime my Main Phone seems to have Died and of course Android Backups suck, so basically I lost everything, mainly my 2FA Authenticator (not sure I have a Backup Code or 2nd Authenticator for all Sites).
