Sony earbuds - GadgetBridge vs Sound Connect

I plan on buying a pair of Sony earbuds (WF-1000XM5) soon and wanted to ask the community opinion about which app to set them up with.

Does anyone have experience with Sony earbuds paired with GadgetBridge? Besides firmware updates, are there other downsides compared to the official Sound Connect app?

And regarding firmware updates, I thought of installing the Sound Connect app in a separate profile and using it only for this purpose. Is this a good idea?

Yes, this is exactly what I use with my Samsung buds which usually controlled via GadgetBridge 🙂

Not sure about the functionality of GadgetBridge, but in the past I did exactly what you mentioned in the last paragraph. You anyway only need the original app for setting it up, updating it and changing any settings of the device. Like functions of its buttons, which is rarely changed tbh.

Have 1000XM5 and P7P. I set up using Connect in separate profile. I think there may be functions in Connect that aren't in GadgetBridge. Firmware updates may be finished at this point; haven't been any in a while and Sony doesn't make a habit of enhancing products after sale via firmware. M6 probably coming soon.

WF-1000XM6 rumored ETA is July 22. Hold off if you can for new product or discounted closeout.

I use 1000XM5 with Sound Connect with no problem. Device switching works as you'd expect, app works flawlessly in all aspects, same for headset.

My Sony WF-C700N's work fine with GadgetBridge. I'm not making any effort to update software, I expect I'll replace them before that becomes really serious.
