Besides surveillance capitalism, just know the opposite can be true if you're in similar situation like Princess Latifa, corrupted system whom cartels and authorities are patting each other's back, war zones, or targeted simply for your belief, ethnicity, nationality so on.

Also human error is more common than you think, and even small oopsie can land you in real big trouble.

GrapheneOS I'm sorry, I was not aware I was making any claims. I just was pointing out that I experienced some unexpected behaviour that I could not explain. It can be a bug. It can be the symptom of an exploit. I might be biased but still. The whole point of GrapheneOS, as I understand it, is to have a more secure phone OS. It is definitely used by targeted individuals, so the probabilities for bugs/exploits could be some what shifted, compared to some default stock phone ROM.
Anyway. I really appreciate your work. I think you did and do a great job, so thank you!
Regarding the unexpected behaviour: what would be the right way to address that as a user? Should I use the dev tools and debug it myself? Live with it? Open an issue on github? Provide logs? Your help is highly appreciated.

So now its been a few days since I upgraded from 2025041100 to 2025042500.
My battery draining faster than normal, is now back to what I would call normal for me and the phone getting warm, well it doesn't any more. It, as I suspected, was nothing to do with my carrier or settings, but that particular release. My carrier and settings have remained the same for months, running GrapheneOS without any apps, VPN, private space or profiles etc , nothing but GrapheneOS and my phone is now back on track after updating to 2025042500. Let's hope it stays there.

However, it's quite unlikely it was the cause of a significant power usage regression on Pixels in that release or that the new revisions since 6.1.131 fixed it. It's likely there was no regression significantly impacting battery life in the first place. You aren't doing any scientific testing or measurements.

It was an actual daily repeatable phenomenon on my phone... which has now stopped with 2025042500.

DeletedUser203 Sounds like something unrelated such as an app or carrier change and it was resolved by rebooting. It's possible a common app people use such as Signal was causing problems and has resolved them. The only possible cause of a regression or the regression being resolved would be upstream Linux kernel changes in the LTS branch. It's very unlikely anything was changed to resolve an increase in power usage introduced by a change earlier. There's currently no good reason to attribute either the increased power usage you experienced or the issue being resolved to OS updates.

Just updated earlier today and my tablet that was draining battery multiple times throughout the day has went back to normal battery usage, thanks for the update!

beigepetra People often think there are changes to battery life either for better or worse after an OS update. It doesn't mean it had anything to do with it. The other possible changes were due to Linux kernel LTS revisions and it's unlikely they had anything to do with either a regression or improvement. All of the changes are listed in the release notes. The Bluetooth changes wouldn't be relevant. Going from 6.1.131 to 6.1.134 didn't really change anything which would improve things either. The previous release similarly didn't change things which would make battery life worse. It's likely you have a network or app which was or still is draining battery. Associating it with updates based on that being the main reason you reboot and updates happening frequently doesn't mean that's related.

GrapheneOS I think some people associate the higher battery usage during app optimization with OS updates. My phone gets hotter and drains quite a bit faster while optimizing.
