What is the current state of RCS with Google Messages App?

I'm considering using Google Messages but only if RCS is stable at this time. I don't want it to work and then just stop working randomly like some have experienced.

Is it a solid experience at this point or will I run into problems?

If it's solid, what is the recommended way to activate and use RCS?

If RCS works smoothly with your carrier in stock Android, it should do so as well with GOS IMHO. I have Google Messages in my Owner account and it just works. Carrier is Deutsche Telekom.

In my experience RCS works only if you are ok with using RCS and Google Apps in your primary owner profile and give it the necessary permissions same as the default texting app. The reason behind this is that the way RCS relies on some of the privileges like "Device Identifiers" for Google Services, are only available in the Primary Owner Profile. People who don't want to use Google Apps in their Owner profile and has it inside a separate profile, use the profile with Google Services judiciously on an as-needed basis and rely on using the "End Session" feature to stay Digitally Minimal will have to stay content with using SMS. Just my two bits on this.

icarious I use my primary google account on the phone and no other profiles so it sounds like it will work well. Is there a guide to using RCS on graphene or do I just enable it in the app and that's it?

Oddly enough, RCS just automatically turned on and has been working flawlessly for a week.

I didn't make a single change to my phone settings - just installed google messages, and it started working.

viper that is awesome! what are the permissions you have for google messages?

Pixelpioneer88 It is showing all permissions are active except for location. I didn't manually turn these on so it just happened.
