I was looking through my settings in GOS Camera app
with disabled camera access when my Pixel 8 froze and then rebooted. After reboot notification "Kernel crash" appeared. I will share it, if development team is interested in it.

Camera app:

  • Hardware memory allocator enabled
  • Memory tagging enabled
  • Native code debugging blocked
  • WebView JIT disabled
  • DCL via memory restricted
  • DCL via storage restricted

General settings:

  • low power mode with around 20% battery charge left
  • no camera access
  • no microphone access

Steps:

  1. Open Camera app
  2. Deny all pop-ups
  3. Open quick settings in the photo mode
  4. Open "not quick" settings
  5. Close
  6. Switch to video mode
  7. Open quick settings in the video mode
  8. Scroll them to the bottom (a few pixels actually)
  9. Press "photo" to switch to photo mode
  10. See phone freezing

If you mean with "quick settings" the little arrow in the corner and with "not quick settings" the "more settings" button.

Then this is not happening on my phone (pixel 8)

Interestingly i just nocticed, that it will still do the flash, when camera access is off in the privacy control thing
