i've tried on/off...and reboot several time..perhaps with the next update...we'll see..
but sme problem as Panda-na...i'm not alone ;-)

pommede when ASOP fixed the bug and re-calibrations started, IIRC it took my phone over 3 hours at 100% to finally show the shield icon, hence my response "might be not long enough" to your "1h-2h" post

I don't know how others do it...
But I never charge an electronic device when it's on. But this feature requires that I charge the phone when it's still on.

Maybe that's not so clear to some people.
After I left the phone on once and then charged it, the sign appeared. Then the recalibration of the battery started.

Dahl3 you may be the only Person that does this. Do you also shitdown your laptop before you charge it and only usw it in battery mode?

That is so inconvenient, even if that would mean 1 more year of battery life I guess hardly anyone would do this.

ToolTimeTim7 The thought of batteries lasting longer if charged while turned off had never occurred to me to be honest. I figured the heat or whatever of being enabled was negligible at best.

Would be fun to know if it would last longer if turned off, as he does it.

ToolTimeTim7 not the only one, I also switch off the device before charging and I dont leave the device unattended either.
Laptops, phones etc used disconnected and on battery only.

other8026 Yeah, figured out that it needed to be at 100% for 2 hours before the shield appeared, so it works as expected now.

I was confused because the shield appeared at 80% before the update, but not after. Maybe it was a coincidence or maybe the battery optimization resets with an OS update?

Not sure if it's the right thread. I've been using the 80% charging limit for a while then stopped a few months ago then resumed recently. Currently it doesn't seem to work anymore. It always charges to 100% in my case. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I'm on the pixel 8a.

You're doing nothing wrong. It is somekind of broken. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

krysor Same issue here. I followed advice on the forum to let it charge to 100% and leave it plugged in for a couple of hours, but it still almost always charges to 100%.

Not sure what the issue is but I assume it's an upstream AOSP bug.

Yes. Probably. Letting it go to 100% (+ shield) allows the phone to calibrate. I had to do this twice on my device after which it went back to stopping at 80%. Though my last charge went back to 100% again. I'm waiting to do my next charge to see if it's still working.

Mine has charged to 100% quite a few times in a row now in spite of the 80% limit enabled.

userofgos I charge it at night so it sits at 100% for a good few hours.

krysor while it is possible that there is some bug you're experiencing, I find it more likely that your battery still hasn't fully re-calibrated itself in a long time. My suggestion would be to plug it in at night and when you wake up check if it has reached 100%+Shield.

I have a Pixel 8a as well and just this week had it charge to 100% +Shield and successfully re-calibrate. It's plugged in right now and is showing 80%+Shield as it should.
