Charging optimization (80% charge limit) recalibration with Android 15 QPR2

With a USB-PD compatible Anker 511 Nano 3 and a 7A, I see the status constantly fluctuating while it's connected: for example, BatteryBot Pro shows the following results after the 7A got charged to 80% and stayed connected (shield is shown):

79%  4.177V  16.5℃ Plugged in after 31h 19m unplugged

80%  4.17V   16.6℃ Plugged in after 33h 53m unplugged
80%  4.01V   15.7℃ Plugged in after 35h 30m unplugged
80%  4.183V  15.8℃ Plugged in after 35h 32m unplugged
80%  1.076V  16.1℃ Unplugged (= actually unplugged)

Is this merely a measurement inaccuracy (especially 79% for 4.259V is strange), or does the battery actually still receive some (intermittant) charging while at 80%? Or does this mean that the battery in fact isn't bypassed at all?
I'm guessing this is more evidence for what @iii talks about?

Official Google cable, using my MacBook Air M2 for charging my Pixel 7 Pro, 8 Pro and 9 Pro XL.
Works very well. Monitoring with the great and long-time well-developed BatteryBot Pro app.

Unfortunately developer Darshan has ended its development in 2018 after nine years. :-(
The very last version of BatteryBot Pro with corrected GUI you can get from F-Droid (v12.0).

The last original version of BatteryBot Pro you can get on GitHub (v10.0.4).
But this version at GitHub is not optimised for modern ultra high resolution displays.
It may not look good on your latest smartphone.
The app still looked great on the first Samsung Galaxy Note from 2011 (Resolution: 800 × 1280 pixels).

BTW: Difference between BatteryBot and BatteryBot Pro is the battery protocol function.
And, of course, the Pro version was not free at the time.

Eagle_Owl have you looked at the log BatteryBot keeps? What happens there during the time your devices are connected after the battery was charged to 80%?

Yes, of course.

The charge is actually terminated shortly after reaching 80 %.
The log then shows (German-language): „Nicht ladend (Netz)”.
In English, I guess it would show: “Not charging (mains)”.

Firstly, I am new to this OS and this forum. I've got to say I am passionate about what the community has done and is doing with GrapheneOS! Love it!

I am running a Pixel 8a and have noticed for several weeks now the battery optimization is completely ignored. No shield is visible over or near the battery icon on the notification "tray", as it were. Recently, the lock will say done charging after 90% but continue charging up to 100% every time. I am new to this device and OS and have only had it for about three months. At first it would just ignore the optimization only when powered off. Now it is regardless of device power status, as already described. The OS is updated regularly to latest stable.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Just wanted to leave a self-reply here with my solution. Leaving the phone charge to 100% and leave it plugged in for a while afterward made the shield icon appear and the text on the lock screen about charging disappeared. I did note a few people said this prior to this post. It is working so far.

If you disable 80% Limit for just one day, you need to recalibrate again (up to 100% + shield) even if it was for a single day only. Is that really useful?!

The charge limit does not work for me anymore. I'm on 2025060200 and it broke on 2025052800. I have tested with several chargers, but all of them goes to 100%, even though it worked perfectly with the same chargers before. In the settings, in the battery section it says "Completed" when it reaches 80% (and when it surpasses that). But it never stops the charging. Anyone else have this issue? It might be that it says something else than Completed in English (my phone is not in English).

Panda-na same for me..doesn't stop to 80%...fully chare with a charger and usb from the pc :-(
it was working fine before...

Panda-na pommede You have to keep it on the charger until you see the shield. I'm not sure what the "complete" message you're talking about is. So far, I've seen multiple people report that charging optimization isn't working for them, but then they find that they just hadn't waited long enough.

other8026 complete is 100% for me..and i let it plugged for 1h-2h...and stay on 100% with no shield...and the next day, the same..until 100 and still no shield..
am i do something wrong? it was ok before the last update; it was charging until 80% and the shield was here and stopped charging.

other8026 Yeah, figured out that it needed to be at 100% for 2 hours before the shield appeared, so it works as expected now.

I was confused because the shield appeared at 80% before the update, but not after. Maybe it was a coincidence or maybe the battery optimization resets with an OS update?

pommede that's strange. Not sure what would cause that or what to suggest if it's not showing up even with the device charging for a while at 100% and for multiple times without seeing the shield. I have it enabled on both of my devices and it's working as expected.

If I were in your shoes, I'd try basic troubleshooting things, like toggling charging optimization off and on and throwing in a couple reboots in the mix.

pommede when ASOP fixed the bug and re-calibrations started, IIRC it took my phone over 3 hours at 100% to finally show the shield icon, hence my response "might be not long enough" to your "1h-2h" post

I don't know how others do it...
But I never charge an electronic device when it's on. But this feature requires that I charge the phone when it's still on.

Maybe that's not so clear to some people.
After I left the phone on once and then charged it, the sign appeared. Then the recalibration of the battery started.

Dahl3 you may be the only Person that does this. Do you also shitdown your laptop before you charge it and only usw it in battery mode?

That is so inconvenient, even if that would mean 1 more year of battery life I guess hardly anyone would do this.
