I've since fully recharged my phone after it completely died, but now screen wont turn on.

If I try pressing any of the power button (or together with volume button) while its plugged in to power source, the screen will briefly light up showing the battery is fully charged before going completely black.

However, if I do the same while the phone is not plugged to a power source (despite being fully charged), the phone will not turn on at all, the screen doesn't even light up and is completely black.

Phone is essentially useless block of metal now.

This is a serious fatal flaw.

Open to any suggestions.

    possibly faulty battery, have you dropped it recently?

        helpmeplease What happens if, while connected to a power source, you press the volume-down button and keep it pressed, then press and hold the power button and keep it pressed, for a long time (more than 30 seconds)?

        If that doesn't get you into fastboot mode, you might want to take it to a repair shop for an opinion.

              de0u sadly, no fast boot mode. It only momentarily lights up the screen showing a fully charged battery symbol. However, starting today, if I remove the power source, and press the same buttons, the screen lights up briefly showing that my battery is drained. Very confusing, that it shows fully charged if the phone is plugged in, and a drained battery when it isn't. These two states are the only responses I've gotten out of my phone.

                    That is consistent with the battery being in serious trouble. If that situation persists, I would recommend unplugging the device from power (especially while the device will be unattended or people will be sleeping nearby) and taking it to a repair shop. If the battery is sufficiently bad then leaving it plugged in could be risky.
