eBay app not working - possible attestation incompatibility?

I'm getting a diversion to sign-in on Google Play when I open the app.

Strangely, if I browse on Vanadium or Firefox, it will open up an item listing in the app (as per my settings for third-party apps) just fine, knowing exactly who I am.

I just can't get through the front door.

Haven't tried to purchase anything.

rocky-planet Version 6196002 was working fine for me until this evening and now I'm getting the same issue as you, it redirects to a screen saying "Get this app from Play", "The app installed on your device is not recognised and could harm your device. To continue using this app, search for it on Google Play". Has anyone got a workaround? I've never seen this screen before and I don't know if it is being generated by the app or by some component of Play store...

E: If you disable Play Store it lets you use the app very briefly before popping up the "Something went wrong" message so it seems like ebay are trying to force people through the Play Store. No more ebay for me then!

I only said it seems to work fine as a guest, not to imply that it doesn't work as a registered user. I'd probably say something like that explicitly, I usually don't use an implicative tone like this.

I just didn't test it with a registered user, that's all. If you trust me enough, you can use my AppVerifier output to be sure you're giving your eBay credentials to the authentic eBay app, and test it yourself. :)

I ran into this problem, too. Google Play says the app is "incompatible" with my Device (Pixel 7a) and therefore the app won't run. I used the ebay app for some time and was logged in.

I have 2 other apps which won't work any more for the same reasons: Renfe Cercanias (com.renfe.renfecercanias) and Eurowings (com.germanwings.android). I finally came up with installing Renfe Cercanias from the Huawei App Store and now at least this app seems to be working.

Made an account to say the fix for now is auth the app yourself by getting AppVerifier to verify the app itself.

Just tap "share/copy Verification info" and copy to clipboard
Then tap "Verify from clipboard"

And it does the above.

I didn't assume tone, rather I was the one whose tone was assumed to be implicative. And I use text bolding to draw attention to important parts when I feel like I don't want the reader to be required to read everything I wrote, I do not mean to be stern. :)

I did as you mention and nothing happens.
AppVerifier says it's more off a informative app rather then having any implications on the system.

I have issues with Eurowings and EBay and both won't start anymore. No matter what I do.

As of version 6.211.0.3 it seems to be working for me again, still has to be downloaded from Aurora but I'm no longer stopped by the "Get this app from Play" message

wizoatk Correct, this is what made Ebay work. You can't get it from Play Store, but you can get it from Aurora Store or an APK site like APKMirror.

I solved my eBay login problem posted above.
While I had enabled Google Play Services etc., I hadn't logged in to a Google account on this phone. Once I logged in to Google, eBay worked.

All very bizzare. On my P7, google play tells me the app is unavailable for my device....and I've logged into gmail on this device...

waynea I had that issue when trying to install it from the Play store. I was able to install it from Aurora though.

Where? In the eBay app, or does the app kick you out and send you to Google Play?

If it says so in the eBay app, then it sounds like the app may be checking if it was installed via Google Play. If you're being kicked out of the app and sent to Google Play, then that shouldn't be happening. You should make sure your device is up to date. The injected code that does that has been blocked from running on GrapheneOS devices if the Play Store source stamp is valid since the 2025052800 release.

The message "Get this app from Play" comes from the eBay app when I try to open it. So, you're probably correct that the app is checking where it was installed from. I cannot install it from Play, as it does not show up in Play.
