eBay app not working - possible attestation incompatibility?

Running GrapheneOS with Play Services enabled, but not signed in to or installing apps via the Google Play Store.

I was previously signed into my eBay account in the app, and recently updated the eBay app to version v6.195.0.2 via Aurora Store.

Now when I launch the eBay app it redirects immediately to the Google Play Store app. I've tried uninstalling, then re-installing the app, same behavior.

Is anyone else experiencing this?
Could this be attestation incompatibility (eBay banning the use of using their app on GrapheneOS)?

BeefCake I tried the app a few weeks ago but it wouldn't let me sign in. I'm using the web app which works fine.

BeefCake Apps can check their install source including via what Google Play refers to as automatic protection which is automatically added to the app. It sounds like this app is using that in combination with making their Play Store listing require the Play Integrity API to be passing even if they aren't enforcing it in the app.

I just had that. Something updated a bunch of apps behind my back and now ebay immediately dumps me at the Google Play login screen.

I uninstalled it, found it in Aurora, hamburger menu -> Manual Download, I asked for 6192003 (which is version 6.192.0.3), and installed that. Now it works again. I do get a Play Integrity checked message from GOS but it lets me login to my account fine.

Probably not a long term solution, but maybe it'll revert in a later version? I added it to the blacklist in Aurora so it doesn't try to update.

I tried installing 6.195.0.2 on a secondary profile that has a Google account logged in. Then I get a message:
"The app installed on your device is not recognised and could harm your device. To continue using this app, search for it on Google Play"
If I hit the 'search on Play' button, the com.ebay.mobile app isn't found.
If I search for ebay it says 'Looking for eBay: buy & sell marketplace? This app won't work on your device'

So it looks like these apps are being locked out via Play somehow, and sideloading them isn't working. I'm getting similar messages for quite a few apps currently.

It was weird to me to see this thread because I did install the eBay app relatively recently and have fiddled with it, and it seemed fine.

But now I checked and the Google Play Store page says: "This app isn't compatible with your device anymore. Contact the developers for more info."

My Play Integrity verdict is at Basic level. I've seen apps that block installation/updates when not having even the Basic verdict (achieved by restricting DCL via memory for Google Play services, which it wrongly detects as "evidence" of a rooted device), but this isn't it. They're banning GrapheneOS.

My installed version of the eBay app is: 6.195.0.2 (6195002). This was the last version installed before they started banning. I can still open it and it seems to work fine (not logged in). If you have the same version and it doesn't work, it's not because of Play Integrity, it's because of either a different installation source or a rogue signature.

Can confirm this behaviour, does not appear in Play Store, and "This app is no longer compatible with your device. Contact the developers for more info." appears if trying to launch APK version 6172002. This is on a fresh install on a Pixel 7, I never had any issues on my existing install on a Pixel 6 Pro (I've reset it since so unsure which APK version that was unfortunately).

The fix for me was to download version 6196002 via Aurora Store. It took a few attempts of uninstalling and reinstalling (Aurora kept freezing when trying to download it for some reason) but it is now working fine. The only issue I'm having is the same one I had before - SMS 2FA codes never arrive, only an Authenticator app can be used to log in - but I suspect that is a problem on ebay's end with my account rather than a compatibility issue.

same troubles here, app worked until yesterday, then error messages. called ebay "help" desk which is useless (asking me to use a different browser on my pc despite mentioning 10 times android and play store) 🤣🤣

Suspected connection to graphenos and found this thread. Thanks to Aurora downloaded and installed version 6192003 (and added it now to aurora black list to avoid updates) and it works again.

I saw someone else on the forum reporting that they installed the app from a third-party source and weren't blocked from using it as some users reported here.

I decided to update the app, which I already had installed from Google Play Store, using a third-party APK site. I can confirm that version 6.205.0.1 (6205001) seems to work fine as a guest despite the different installer app.

Here is my output from AppVerifier in case anyone wants to ensure they installed the app matching the authentic version on Google Play Store:

When you say "as a guest" do you mean you are not able to sign into an ebay account?

On a Pixel 3 with graphene os, eBay works absolutely fine. Pixel 6 with graphene os, however is "not compatible with this app", as far as google play is concerned.

I'm getting a diversion to sign-in on Google Play when I open the app.

Strangely, if I browse on Vanadium or Firefox, it will open up an item listing in the app (as per my settings for third-party apps) just fine, knowing exactly who I am.

I just can't get through the front door.

Haven't tried to purchase anything.

I only said it seems to work fine as a guest, not to imply that it doesn't work as a registered user. I'd probably say something like that explicitly, I usually don't use an implicative tone like this.

I just didn't test it with a registered user, that's all. If you trust me enough, you can use my AppVerifier output to be sure you're giving your eBay credentials to the authentic eBay app, and test it yourself. :)

I ran into this problem, too. Google Play says the app is "incompatible" with my Device (Pixel 7a) and therefore the app won't run. I used the ebay app for some time and was logged in.

I have 2 other apps which won't work any more for the same reasons: Renfe Cercanias (com.renfe.renfecercanias) and Eurowings (com.germanwings.android). I finally came up with installing Renfe Cercanias from the Huawei App Store and now at least this app seems to be working.
