Hello,
I'm a huge fan of Graphene OS, the values behind it and now (Sandboxed GPS) also usability, but unfortunately I'm also an IDIOT ;(
I ordered my (almost) new Pixel 7 and when it arrived I tested it on stock Android for 2-3 hours before I switched to Graphene. I was really hyped and excited when it all worked (although I installed many custom ROMs before, which were much more demanding when it comes to installation). Currently I'm on Samsung S10 and IODE OS with uG.
Unfortunately during setting it up I created a PIN number thinking "it's so easy, I'm gonna remember it" ...which approx.10-15 mins later I forgot :( When I realized that there's nothing I can do at this point I went into "panic mode" and started tapping like a crazy monkey, also I rebooted it because it looked like you get ONE try every reboot (no countdown) - but later on, using logic I'm closer to thinking that after reboot even if I would tap in the CORRECT PIN it would just go to countdown.
That's QUESTION #1/MAIN - after seeing countdown i.e. 6 hours and then after rebooting do I get 1 try or it simply does not display the countdown yet it' still in countdown mode. I tried all the logic PINs that I would think of but...
I'm pretty sure it was:
- something in one line i.e. 0852 or 2580 (as I wanted to use scrambled pin keyboard later on) - approx 70% sure
- using a pattern ABCD ABCD (eventually ABCD DCBA) so it has 8 digits that are in fact only 4 - approx. 90% sure
- it could be some of my traditional pins (credit card ones) but slightly modified - approx 50% sure
- I WOULDN'T go with i.e. 1457 2381 thinking I'm gonna remember it (that I know 100%)
QUESTION #2 - is there some limit of waiting time (right now it's 36hours) or does it multiply itself into infinity?
I went through 5 stages of grievance and I am in peace with the fact that If I won't find the right PIN so my plan B is to sell it for parts.
Fortunately I have all the credentials to prove it's mine (invoice etc.) so I will be able to sell it (and get maybe 50% of the value, as it's in mint condition). Also there's no data (if the buyer would unlock it somehow), i only managed to install Fdroid and SatStat. By then I will be able to buy a new one.
PLAN C is/was to by a new mainboard and change it myself, but i'm not sure I will manage to open the phone - it's extremely hard to open, as it goes from the front - i never did such constructions.
The worst part is that it's not something I would ever think I might do (I use KeePass, change passwords, make backups, encrypt sensitive data, I never lost one password [only one old email account was hacked], I try to spread the word about privacy and security etc.). So.... even if I manage to unlock it after some time the bad taste will accompany me for a loooooong time :(
Thanks for advises in advance,
R.
P.S. OFC the bootloader is locked, and during first configuration i set OEM unlocking off
