It was a pleasure to share my experience with you.

Yes, you get instant push notifications – via WebSocket or – via UnifiedPush as I mentioned.
The difference is the energy consumption, which is a little less by using UnifiedPush protocol.
And you will benefit more, if you have multiple apps using it.

For Signal Android app and Molly app these permissions are sufficient (also to get voice calls!):
Tap long on the Molly app icon to see the context menu “App Info” (same with Signal app):
Select “Battery usage of the app”, then select “Optimised”.

Second important tip (useful for the most apps there!):
Select “Mobile Data Usage” and switch off “Background data”.

It makes no sense at all to use ntfy for molly only. There is no measurable difference and no "a little less" energy consumption.

DeletedUser119 then you might as well use Molly-FOSS with no extra setup just websockets off the bat. It doesn't really use battery all that much more than with unified push. I tried implementing UP, but with ao few apps supported not worth the hassle for me.

As SgtSurehand has mentioned, the hassle could be more than the effort, because the difference isn't very much.

In my practical experience most of the time in standby 1% battery lasts 1 hour.
Sometimes 1% battery in standby last 1:20 h.

Without UnifiedPush in standby 1% battery lasts never more than 1:00 h.

In other words:
If it's not important to save a lot of energy and only Molly-FOSS could use UnifiedPush because you don't use any other app that supports UnifiedPush, then it's not really worth it.

However, if you are one of those who want to be reachable by phone even via Messenger, then UnifiedPush is not ideal because it has a disadvantage:
It cannot transfer calls directly, it can only notify you of the call attempt.
And passing on a call attempt notification wakes up Molly and if the caller then tries to reach you by phone again, then (!) Molly rings.
So only on the caller's 2nd or 3rd attempt.

Some data of battery usage for the last 3 days 14 hours:

No 1: Proton VPN Background usage : 20%
No 2: Magic Earth with 1 h screen time: 14 %
No 3: Molly FOSS with 37 min Screentime and 3 days 14h background: 12 %
No 4: ntfy: 12 % (ntfy is setup for FindMyDevice, but not Molly)

Yes, but only together with UnifiedPush.
Using WebSocket alone has not the mentioned disadvantages in Molly-FOSS.

I am using my restricted setup for Molly-FOSS and on another Pixel phone for the Signal app.
A friend of mine uses it with the same restricted setup (he uses Molly-FOSS without UnifiedPush).
Bottom line: Molly-FOSS and Signal are always ready to call and the Pixel phone rings immediately when someone calls via Molly/Signal.

Okay, perhaps the difference I noticed a few times was not due to the use of UnifiedPush. I don't want to rule that out.

Yes, of course there are still many (mostly older) people who actually make phone calls.
But the trend is moving in that direction and there are studies showing that the younger generation is afraid of phone calls and avoids them as much as possible.
