I've been using a private DNS (nextDNS) and orbot for specific apps (WhatsApp, Newpipe, Aurora). Everything has been working fine for the last month however I noticed today that Aurora wasn't downloading any apps so I figured I'll check and see everything's good on the Orbot end, I may have refreshed the app and unchecked Aurora for a bit, cleared the cache in Aurora setting and checked Aurora back in Orbot. I wasn't able to get Aurora to work routed through Orbot and then I see a notification that "Network has no internet access. Private DNS server cannot be accessed."

I would like to keep the three apps above routed through Orbot and have nextDNS as the private DNS. Been quite liking the workflow. I don't currently use a VPN. I used to turn on Proton VPN (free) for whenever I used Newpipe but not since I started using Orbot.

Advice/Thoughts?

vagr Private DNS + a VPN (in this case Orbot) don't play well together a lot of the time. It'll probably work with private DNS turned off.

other8026 Thank you. Took me some time and your response to realise that. I switched to RethinkDNS. While it is not what I hoped a DNS with an assigned IP (via proxy) is a compromise.

Is paying for a VPN a viable option?
