It may be a cable or USB port issue, which seems to be the common cause of issues like this, but also make sure you've followed all of the prerequisites, including:

  • Do not use Incognito or other private browsing modes. These modes usually prevent the web installer from having enough storage space to extract the downloaded release.
  • Ensure you have a working fastboot driver as described under Connecting the phone

    Thank you for replying, mythodical. I went through the prerequisites successfully, and believe I flashed successfully. I did NOT relock the boot loader (screwup) before rebooting and now can not get beyond the "bootloader is unlocked" screen.
    Possibly there is a way to relock the bootloader other than the "fastboot mode" screen which displays, but does not allow me to lock the bootloader?
    Perhaps there is a "rescue" command that'll bypass the warning screen?

            After you flashed your device successfully, just click on "Lock bootloader" it's right under the "Flash release" button.

            Then you can lock the bootlader over the volume/power buttons on your phone, like you unlocked it at first you now reverse the steps to lock it

              Sorry didn't saw your other post,
              I think you can flash again the OS on your phone to bypass this.
              If your in the fastboot screen, you should be able to navigate back to bootloader over the volume buttons.

              But maybe someone with more advice chime in.

                I was unable to bring up the web install options because the Windows OS no longer recognized the device. I eventually stumbled over a "rescue mode" operation using the P7 power/volume up buttons that allowed me to wipe much of the device.
                I have just now reattempted to connect to the p7 through the installer and this time windows found the device, so I am repeating the process from the download step. It is now installing the radio, etc.; and appears to be succeeding.
                Concern is that it seems to be installing it TWICE. Think I'll go for a walk and wait it out.
                If it succeeds, I'll darn well lock the bootloader this time around.

                  newbie24689 If you haven't already done so, try this:

                  1. Disconnect the phone from the PC
                  2. Power-off the PC and then boot it again
                  3. Reconnect the phone to the PC once Windows loads
                  4. Attempt the Lock bootloader step again

                  I have found that Windows can get stuck sometimes and not properly connect to the phone until rebooted.

                    I think that's not the case, i flashed multiple devices in the last week and while i was flashing my own phone,my pc got a bluescreen.
                    Just flashed the OS again and it's working fine with no memory issues.

                      In my case I have used USB to USB-C adapter, that prevented detection of the device. I had to unplug the adapter from USB-C cable, rotater 180 degrees and plug USB-C cable into the adapter. This was important in my case, because USB port has the UP side.

                        Thank you for the reply, Katemason. I noticed that as well. Having never used a usb-c, I presumed it worked as does the usb-mini connector: only one way to insert, But it actually "clicks in" either way. Yikes. I wonder how many people have had "cable trouble" because of that. Heh, as an IPhone user, there are lots of little things to learn.

                          Thank you mythodical, Schiller, and Katemason! I got it running this morning. Apparently it has a "recovery" OS that survives, and works to allow connections and flashing no matter how badly you try to break it. NICE.
