Greetings my fellow carbon allotropes,

Does anyone have experience in getting the Australian myID App previously known as myGovID to work under GrapheneOS?

During testing I was able to install the app and complete the on-boarding process which requires submission of documents to prove your identity.

However when I tried to initiate a transaction on a website which should trigger a 4 digit code to reach the device, it was never received on the phone.

The app has been installed in a separate profile with Google Play Services activated and both network and notification permissions allowed.

No matter what I have tried, the code never reaches the device for verification.

I have also noticed that when checking enrolled devices in the app, it displays a blank list that shows no devices have been enrolled. This occurs despite the fact that the document verification process completed successfully and the app shows my ID to have been verified.

Does anyone know how to get codes to arrive on the device or if it is not possible what the cause is?

limabean28736 changed the title to Australia myID App (previously myGovID) .

Greetings fellow human being, I can confirm the myID app has been working on a P6a. In a Work Profile, installed myGovID via Play Store some time ago, my wife has reported no issues - e.g. today myID worked again.

On another note, this app is by the ATO, not by Services Australia (like my_Gov or Express_Plus_Medicare, which I tried recently on a P8a and don't work on GOS).

@stripey - Thank you for the confirmation. And for confirming your humanity which in today's age may become increasingly rare. 🤖

I'm adding the following update for anyone else who finds this post in the future and is having issues getting the app working.

If you find that the app is not working for you, it may be because of your host file or tracker blocking settings. Make sure that you have the following domain on your allowlist or white list:

    *.firebaseinstallations.googleapis.com

This is mandatory as apps such as myID use Google's firebase framework to enroll devices and ensure that messages can reach the enrolled devices.

It's certainly a privacy trade-off, but unfortunately it is the only way that you can have functional firebase applications working on GOS.

stripey my_Gov, Express_Plus_Medicare, etc. all unfortunately have been coded to require hardware attestation and because GOS will never get this from Google those apps can not be made to run under GOS. The only options open to you is to access the services via their web-based portals or to contact the respective ministers, staff and app developers and convince them to remove the unnecessary code. Getting an Australian polly to actually respond to you in a meaningful way and understand what is required should be super easy! 🤣

limabean28736 Yeah, that's right, got Buckley's! But I'm glad for the (original) alternative to access those govt. services, a full-functioning website version. I don't believe there's an alt. way for the myID app, but not a prob. at this stage.

Does that mean myGov Code Generator doesn't work either? The website version talked about won't work unless you have another way of logging in.
