Signal not recognizing play services are installed

I gave it a shot by uninstalling signal and reinstalling with all permissions granted, same error message as soon as Signal opens saying optimize for missing play services

Banging my head against a wall now, lol, it doesn't make any sense

I noticed this post you made a few days ago, where you describe having Play Services installed in a Private Space.

If that was the same device, maybe there are artifacts from that installation causing problems?

I don't have any suggestions on how to go about fixing that, but I thought it might be relevant information.

Yeah, I gave the Private Space a shot for my voip app with play services, but I didn't care for how it worked. The notifications I received for inbound calls were intermittent at best and I couldn't answer the calls anyway when I was in the 'main' profile. I deleted the entire private space before installing play services and signal on my owner profile. Not sure if that could still be the cause of an issue?

treenutz68 I still wonder how there can be such extreme deviation in the battery consumption between users. My Molly (also running through WebSocket) is only using up like 1% of battery out of all my apps. I think the most I've seen (when it's just sitting idle) was around 3%. I wonder what differs so much. Doesn't help your situation of course. I also haven't found any settings for Play Services that might affect FCM registration. Too bad there isn't a toggle like in microG, that would really help troubleshoot. I think the one thing you might try is create a new user profile, install Play Services there (and Signal afterwards) and see if the same behavior occurs there. Also disable all VPNs, private DNS and firewall apps, just to be sure.

Me either, but it seems likely from the symptoms and the logs that something unusual is wrong with your Play Services installation.

Since the usual issues & solutions don't seem to help, the not-usual fact that you previously had it installed in the private space seems like it might point toward the problem.

Other than a factory reset, I don't know what you could do about it though.

Probably9857 That is a good point, some glitch with Private Space having play services installed and then being deleted seems like a good guess of why I'm facing this problem. I'm going to try @DeletedUser87 suggestion of installing play services and signal on a new profile and see what happens there. If that works in the new profile, I'm betting I have to factory wipe my owner profile to get it to behave correctly there.

Quick update @Probably9857 @DeletedUser87 : I created a new profile with play services and installed signal. Same exact message. So it doesn't seem to be related to my short usage of private space with play services. Looks like I may need to go to last resort of nuking my phone and reinstalling graphene. Wish there was an easier backup method so I could do that painlessly, but I'll need to wait until I have some free time to carefully back everything up prior to factory reset. Sigh, thanks again for all your suggestions for how I may be able to fix this, but I guess there is some weird bug that is hard to find.

treenutz68 I can reproduce it when Play services have the network permission revoked during the Signal account setup. Any chance you could double-check that permission for Play services?

(Also, Signal complains about missing Play services when Play services are disabled as a whole, but I assume that your profile has it enabled).

Unfortunately I did give Play services network services when installing (in addition to notification permission and unrestricted battery).

Old thread but hope to help those that come after me. I was able to fix it by turning off Private DNS during the Signal setup/login process. You can turn it back on after the setup and it works just fine. Obviously make sure to have Google Play Services enabled with network permissions.
