Revolut mobile finance - not supported on devices with custom firmware problem

3mox0 As mentioned previously, Wise is not an option for me (I still have an account there, but haven't used it for ages), but good if you can cope with it.

Satoichi Something has changed recently with the latest app versions, because it was working fine on our old (non-GrapheneOS) phones with the "userdebug" loophole till two days ago, when my wife suddenly got logged out and couldn't log in again, as well as for me yesterday in the morning, when it suddenly stopped working with the "custom firmware" error.

So if the workaround that GrapheneOS uses is still working, well well, looks like I finally will have to attend to the move to our new Pixel 8a phones.

I stayed on the last working version of Revolut until yesterday when it started nagging me to update. After reading this whole thread I updated to the latest version and it works like a charm. Thank you again!

bluegrass Damned, that's a huge letdown and a showstopper for me, because unfortunately I just can't do without Revolut (personally and for business).

So they really don't want to allow their apps on GOS specifically, although the message has already been conveyed that it's the one and only custom operating system that's more secure than stock Android.

The question is now, is someone here that can investigate further what's the issue this time?

I am quite certain that this still has nothing to do with Play Integrity and I am still hopeful that this is not the end for Revolut on GOS. It may be a mouse and cat situation, but as long as it can be fixed somehow, well...

MasterOne the truth is, you shouldn't mix your business with private life and for that (and only that) purpose stick with a stock device which will not let you down in that respect.

That may be how you wish to use your devices, but other people may not. I think we should refrain from giving this kind of advice.

Sad truth is that if some apps choose not to run or limit functionality on GrapheneOS because they detect something they don't like (Play Integrity, etc.) then some people just won't use GrapheneOS. One way to get around that would be to have two devices, but that's not really feasible for everybody.

spl4tt Is there a specific way in which you are able to trigger the message? Previously, before GrapheneOS' changes several months ago, it could be triggered from the initial registration screen, but I cannot trigger it on version 10.84.1. I don't have an account any longer though.

In Revolut app settings the "Play Integrity API" option is missing.

It sounds like Revolut simply isn't using the Play Integrity API. The workarounds that GrapheneOS applied in 2025012600 did not involve working around the Play Integrity API. See https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/113869402100735005

But why is the play integrity toggle not showing up for me when it does for others? That's a bit odd.

After the recent outrage on reddit where several people reported getting the message "revolut doesn't support custom firmware", I contacted revolut support, who said they don't block custom roms and dont intend to in the future, but they are doing play protect checks, and specifically check for unlocked bootloader and latest security patch.

AFAIU that means that they ARE blocking most custom roms as none of them have a locked bootloader, except graphene.

BUT revolut theoretically WILL continue to work if what support said was true.

Considering this, what are the chances that we will be able to use revolut on grapehene on the long term?

turmoil2750 Revolut definitely does NOT check for latest security patch, I was able to just install it successfully on an old phone running Android 9 with security patch level 5 October 2019.

With GOS, the bootloader is locked, so that's not the issue either. And as said, I'm certain that this has nothing to do with Play Integrity, so they are now doing some additional other check that GOS fails.

That would probably exclude 99% of Android phones in the wild
