Number displayed instead of Contacts

Hi,

I got this bug recently:
When somebody calls me, I can only see the number on the lockscreen and not the associated contact.

My permissions for Phone and Contacts haven't changed from the default.
I am using a Pixel 8 with latest updates.
Anybody had this issue or knows a fix/workaround?

Just to rule out a possible cause, this is when u receive a call in the same profile where your correlating contacts are stored?

This might indeed be a bug, or have some specific cause not known to me. Maybe some other community member will chime in that has (had) this experience aswell, and knows the solution.

The only reason i could think of is before first login when powering on the device, contacts are still encrypted. So when u receive a call then before first login, only the number would be displayed. But i assume this isn't the case here.
Maybe, if a bug, the issue lays there somewhere

Perhaps consider making a github issue if nobody chimes in with this experience or explanation after a day or 2.

I've just came across this post: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/238-received-calls-no-longer-resolve-to-contact/2. Admittedly an old post, and not sure if still relevant today on android 15, but worth a shot to look into i guess.

As i understand your post, it stopped working suddenly, so it used to work. Can u maybe tie it to a certain event? Like after an update, maybe installed a new app, change of permissions somewhere etc.?

Edit: also see u mentioned in your initial post that the contact doesn't show up on the lockscreen. Is it only on the lockscreen? If u are in the profile the contact shows up?

I don't know exactly when the issue started to happen, I just noticed recently the contacts won't show up and I was wondering why. Unfortunately, I cannot pinpoint to an exact time because it correlates with me being called via Cellular and thats not happening that often. In the call history, the contacts show up fine. So maybe it's a permission issue when the phone is locked?
Just to be sure:

contacts permissions: call logs, contacts, network, notifications, phone and sensors
phone permissions: call, camera, contacts, microphone, nearby devices, network, notifications, phone, sensors, SMS

Edit: I looked into my Call History and August the 15th was the first occurence I can remember.

I looked a bit closer to the phone numbers in contacts, some are with "-" between the numbers, maybe that's the issue. Will report back if I can verify.

Bjorn That could very well be, however it would be weird to start suddenly. If this was the issue it should be like that from the beginning? Or it could be it is a new contact.

I remember reading here some time ago a similar issue with numbers from Argentine, more specifically with the prefix of the number. If i remember correctly the issue was caused by the prefix.
