Hello,

My SIM card stopped working on my Pixel 8, but the SIM works on other phones I own.

I am unable to toggle on or erase the SIM

Of note, this is a 4G data only SIM and before it stopped working I noticed it connecting to 5G.

Thoughts on resetting the network to re-establish the SIM?

If I can't figure this out I fear I'll have to do a hard reset.

You could first try to reset network settings under Settings -> System -> Reset options.
What do you mean by "erasing the SIM", are we talking about an eSIM or a physical one?

the error when I try to erase

"Can't erase eSIM" (this is not an eSIM)
"Somthing went wrong and this eSIM wasn't erased"
"Restart your devise and try again"

splattergames When I resent the mobile nextwork I receive the same error as I stated above. the actual SIM card has "eSIM" printed on the card..

losswhipill okay, I have never heard of something like that before. Did you enable eSIM support in the network settings menu? If not, you can try to toggle it on and reboot the phone, maybe that helps. If the toggle was on, do the opposite.

splattergames eSIM support was toggled off, somewhere in all the reboots and attemps to erase the eSIM (with the error saying it could not be erased), it was erased. i then put back in the SIM and its working correctly once again, thanks for your help, I think using system - reset options - reset network (with eSIM) did the trick

I noticed that the P8 is rather picky re physical sim cards. I replaced an older sim card that sometimes did not pick up phone calls with a new one, which solved my issues.

Michiel I think the problem came when the phone was trying to connect to 5G when the data card is only for 4G, I changed the settings in the phone to hopfully prevent this problem from happening again.

This only happened on the P8, my previsous P5a had no issues, i just got the new phone.
