Hi, I'm trying to understand if I will be able to use FOSS TimeLimit.io app with latest GOS A15.
The app helps to limit usage time of the device and apps, and also helps to restrict modification of certains phone settings, like disabling change of DNS configuration (to ensure private DNS is kept).
However, in order to fully function (mainly to avoid disabling the app), the app requires Device owner permission.

Thus my questions are:

  1. Can TimeLimit.io work on A15 GOS?
  2. Can I grant device owner permission to the app?
  3. Can I use the app with device owner in non-owner user profile?
  4. Can I have the app working simultaneously in both owner and non-owner user profiles? so in owner everythin be limited, and it will be used only if device restarts and user needs to access his dedicated user profile.

Thank you!

Just in case, there is a discussion on adjacent topic but it's more than a year old https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/5407-google-family-link and focuses on Google Family Link primarily

@jacobb , have you gained any experience with the TimeLimit.io app since your last question? Do you mind checking my questions above?

Yes to all your questions. I use it for my kids.

nunyo thank you! do you use owner or non-owner profile as main for children?

nunyo btw, is it their own phone, or do you just share the phone with them so they use it occasionally?

the reason I'm asking, is that if I want to prepare a phone that will be "owned" by someone and set up timelimit.io in non-owner profile, then I have to share with that person PIN of the owner profile as well, so they can do the post-reboot login. So I'm interested to find an elegant way to solve it. The only approach I came by is to setup timelimit.io in the owner profile as well and restrict literally everything, so it's only possible to login. But I don't know what are the side effects and if there are any limitations.

mmobder I've got it on the Pixel Tablet. My kids are young so they can only use it if my wife or I unlock it for them. Why even use a secondary profile in this situation?

nunyo easy, to further restrict a user from doing system-wide changes

nunyo some (useful) limitations I've discovered so far:
          Specifics of non-owner user profiles:
          can't install tools like Termux
can't configure some of system-wide settings like private DNS (can do it for apps that allow it, like Vanadium etc)
can't enable hotspot (only owner can)
          can't enable internet tethering (usb/eth/bt)
(new) can't add new users (if they don't know owner pin/pwd), can't do system updates
