How Orbot does the app selection?

Hi,

I'm using Orbot and interestingly, you can select the apps to be routed through Tor.
If you run it as VPN kind of service on Android, it acts also as a kill switch.

I wonder how it does it, because if I install Tor in a Linux distro, it doesn't have such capability and for reasons I know, so how can it do that on Android?
Does it take the app namespace on Android? I can't think of a different way.
