Access to Android Data Folder

Hi,

I am currently switching to my new Pixel 7 with GrapheneOS and so far everything went smooth, great work! But now I have a problem with importing old data from Gadgetbridge:

The app only can import the exported data from /Android/data/nodomain.freeyourgadget.gadgetbridge/files/ and I cannot copy the exported files to this location with any file manager. Either the folder is not visible at all or I cannot copy to this folder.

Is there any trick how I can copy the files to this location?

You can just use the files app to create the folders.

open files app
Go to Android/data/
tap three dots in upper right-hand corner
new folder
call the new folder nodomain.freeyourgadget.gadgetbridge
open folder and create a folder called files
copy the files you exported previously to that folder (I'd emphasize copy in case something doesn't work)

Hi, it is already there, but I cannot copy the old data into this folder. When I choose "copy to" and then select the Android folder there is no data folder inside. It is just not visible. When I am not in copy mode it is available.

I just tried it on my phone and I got the same result. Even tried another file manager and same thing. I didn't realize even the files app didn't have access to copy files there because I copy files out and delete things from there often...

It's too bad this app doesn't handle this kind of thing more smoothly or at least allow you to change the import/export folder.

Maybe ADB would work but I'm not at a computer now to try it out.

You are right, the way Gadgetbridge is doing is feels / is wrong.

But what kind of protective "sourcery" is this that hides some folders under certain circumstances?

Oh good. I was going to say using ADB would only work on the owner profile. This way is better since it works for any profile. Very sneaky way around Android restrictions so I think when Google figures this out they'll start blocking this method too.

In the meantime, hopefully the app devs redesign their export/import backups feature.
