Hello,

Do you know of a TTS engine that works in GrapheneOS and supports French? I installed RHvoice and it is working fine for English but doesn't support French.

Thank you.

I haven't found any either.
I tried Speech Services by Google, revoking network permission, as it can download and work offline.
It was for organic maps, but it doesn't work :/

[deleted] Thank you. I wish to use it for Osmand. I am using English now, which is fine, except for street names...

I'm using magic earth right now.
French TTS in app, it works pretty well.

[deleted] Thank you. I do not wish to install Speech Services by Google. So, I am driving in the street of Paris with English directions and warnings (stops, crossroads, etc.). It is ok, but spelling of French street names do have a heavy English accent :-) .

espeak (in fdroid) seems to support french. At least I can choose french in the settings. But voices are not the best (in my case german). There are some tweaks you can use to make it half decent like changing speed and accent. Far from perfect but it works quite well on Osmant. Puts a smile right on my face every time I use Osmand and I hear that voice :)

meiklmue Where can you find a French dictionary to use in espeak? Thank you.

I Installed "Speech Services by Google" from Aurora store, temporarily installed Google services Framework to download the needed language via TTS-settings (no google account needed), removed Google services Framework and revoked network permission for Speech Services by Google.

Works fine for me in organic maps and in my ebook reader. Haven't tried OsMand, but i guess it would work too, because it is able to use the systems default TTS-engine if I remember correctly.

wonder75 Thank you. I will first try with espeak and if it doesn't work in Osmand I will try "Speech Services by Google".

meiklmue I installed espeak and the French voice. It is working fine and I can hear a French voice. I changed the settings in Osmand and now will try tomorrow outside (it is night here in France now).

Arnauld I used Espeak for a while as well but the robotic 80s style voice was a bit too much for me after some time. Has it's charm though ;)

I have to admit, it gets a little annoying if you navigate for a few hours :)
But at least it is google-free and that's what counts for me.

I can't find an option to hear selected text directly in vanadium. What tts app you use instead ?

Had one from iMangoo. That one had USB-disconnects all the time.

Now I have one from ANKER. Works without problems.

It worked fine in Osmand, I tried today and it is ok. Thank you for your comments.

It's frustrating, I don't understand why it doesn't work for me...
I tried to completely reinstall, then try RHvoice with organic maps in english and nothing again... OM is totally mute : /

It's a shame because the app looks really good, but it's useless without sound

[deleted] Did you enable speech guidance in the settings of OM? When entering the menu, I can select my language there and it works. Not using RHvoice though. I use Google.

Yes. TTS is activated on OM, in French.
                    On GOS setting too.

I also use google TSS, but I tried with Rhvoice to see if the problem came from there, but it doesn't change anything.
I have to miss something, but I don't see what.
