Hello,

French provider FREE just enabled 5G SA and VoNR for devices compatibles.

They give a list of phone compatibles or not :

Some samsung are compatibles.
But it seems none of the Pixel are... Is it true ? or is it some Google software lock ?

Thank you

    Orphee Some samsung are compatibles.
But it seems none of the Pixel are... Is it true ? or is it some Google software lock ?

Has this question been posed to FREE customer support? Perhaps they have plans to test and certify Pixel devices as well?

I will try it in a few days once migrated

Orphee I'd recommend against using that app since the way that it works is it has another app, Shizuku, make some changes to some internal settings (I forget exactly how it works, but I wrote about it here). Shizuku connects to the device using ADB, meaning it has a ton of access to the phone. Using ADB in general opens up attack surface and granting an app access is not a good idea at all.

I vaguely remember that the "patch" app needs to be run after every update? Or after reboot? Regardless, you can't just make one quick change and stop using Shizuku.

5G may not work in your country, but maybe 4G does.

      other8026 Thanks for your advice...
      I will avoid it then...

My carrier has 5G already, but they enabled 5G SA and VoNR, but say say only available for some samsung.

Could GrapheneOS give an option to enable it even if carrier does not enable it with carrier service update ?

This magisk module can enable it, but must be rooted, and I don't want to root GrapheneOS.

Orphee There is an open issue here: https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/956. I believe that one of the overrides that are mentioned would include enabling 5G, but I could be mistaken.

The issue is still open and is marked as an enhancement with no priority. Overriding carrier configs might be added in the future, but the developers usually find themselves busy with other higher priority items, like supporting new devices, preparing for big QPR or major version releases, or other important privacy or security improvements.

So, for this particular feature, one that gets some special attention sometimes, I'd once again remind people (not to anyone in particular) and anyone who might be interested in this feature that GrapheneOS is an open source project. Someone who wants the feature and can put in the time and effort to make a good implementation that meets the project's standards is welcome to take a crack at it.
