First off, I' m not tech savy. With that being said, I am using a Samsung Chromebook(ChromeOS: version: 126.0.6478.252), I am trying to install GrapheneOS via web installer to my Pixel 6. The Chromebook is my only option for installing GrapheneOS to my Pixel.

My Pixel and Chromebook have been fully updated before attempting to install. Chromebook is plugged into power supply and Pixel is fully charged. I connected my devices via USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable.

  1. On my Pixel I turned on developer mode, enabled OEM and USB Debugging unlocked.

  2. Restarted my Pixel while holding the down button.

  3. Clicked Unlocked bootloader on the web installer.

  4. Clicked Downloaded Release (waited until downloaded) on the web installer.

  5. Clicked Flash Release on the web installer.

  6. Selected Start on my Pixel device.

Now all it does is it keeps rebooting every 40 seconds. The screen is black and says your bootloader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed, etc. There is an option that says: press power button to pause. This lasts about 10 seconds. Then it shows Google logo, and reboots about 30 seconds later. It appears to be stuck in a loop.

Please advise...

I also selected "unlock bootloader" on my Pixel using the power/volume buttons. I forgot to mention it in the steps. I also selected Pixel 6 after selecting Unlock Bootloader on the web installer.

Xarcell To power off the device, hold the power button for at least 60 seconds until the screen becomes black.

Then boot back into the bootloader interface and start the flashing again.

Xarcell Clicked Flash Release on the web installer.

Selected Start on my Pixel device.

You have to make sure that the web installer has finished flashing (it will tell you so), then you proceed to locking the bootloader before you start the device.

    Xarcell USB Debugging unlocked.

That is not part of the install process. Please make sure you are following the official install guide and not a third-party one. 😊

Ok, now I'm starting to panic. There was no changes on the web installer on the web page after 30 minutes. Then all of the sudden it shows a with a progress bar with about 1% full, and an error that says: Error: Failed to execute 'requestDevice' on 'USB': No device selected.

This was a new phone for me, and I'm assuming I just lost $300 by bricking my phone. I didn't have $300 for a new phone, but I charged it to my credit, because my Banking app was no longer supported on my Pixel 2. Now I don't know what to do.

fid02 The web installer does no longer detect the device. Therefore
when I click "Flash Release", it says "failure to execute 'requestDevice' on 'USB'. No device selected. However, in ChromeOs is says Android device is connected: "Verify". Clicking Verify seems to do nothing.

Xarcell I think the part where I said ChromeOS detects the device is not true. It says "Connected Devices", but I think it means "Synced Devices".

I tried clicking "Flash Release" on the web installer, but it prompts "no devices detected". My Chromebook doesn't seem to detect my Pixel 6 anymore. However, it will detect my Pixel 2. I even tried USB Type-A to Type-C. I even tried using a different USB Type-C port. My Pixel 6 is undetectable.

Xarcell try restarting your computer. Maybe another tab or another program thinks it should be the one connecting to the phone.

Xarcell This was a new phone for me, and I'm assuming I just lost $300 by bricking my phone.

It is extremely unlikely that you have bricked your phone.

I'm not an installation expert, but there are definitely people on this forum who can help you. Not everyone here is in the same timezone, so be patient, take a deep breath. You seem very determined to get GrapheneOS installed, and I[m confident you will be able to somehow.

other8026 I tried that. I also tried clearing cache/cookies/power reboot.

Xarcell To be detected for flashing purposes:

              1. Unplug the device and completely quit the browser.
              2. If the device is on, press and hold the power button for a long time until it turns off,
              3. Press the volume-down button and keep it pressed,
              4. Press the power button until the device comes on, then release both buttons,
              5. Next to the power button the display should say "Start". Do not press the power button, because you do not want to boot the device (that's what the device wants, but not what you want).
              6. Start the browser and bring up the installer page.
              7. Now plug the device in to the USB cable. If at all possible, use the Google USB-C-to-USB-C cable that came with the device.

              Does that work?

de0u No. I cannot do the steps as you requested. the phone just keep rebooting every 40 seconds or so. It doesn't give the option to change the boot selection. It reboots and says "push power button to pause". Pushing the volume buttons up or down, when or when not paused, does nothing. The device has been rebooting every 40 seconds for hours. I paused it to save battery, because I suspect once the battery dies it may be fully dead. I will try to make a YouTube video of what it is doing.

Press and hold the power button (and no other buttons) for a very long time (more than 60 seconds).

Edit: press the power button (and no other buttons) continuously (without releasing it) for a very long time (more than 60 seconds).

Here is a YouTube video showing the issue I am having: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2gam_re9uI

As you can see it just reboots over and over. Pushing the power button only pauses and unpauses the installation. Volume buttons do nothing. Holding the power button during the Google logo screens does nothing.

My Chromebook no longer detects the device when I plug it in with a USB Type-C to USB Type-C, using a different cable or port, or using a USB Type-A to Type-C cable. I have power rebooted my Chromebook and cleared cache and cookies. Nothing seems to help.

                    Please advise. Thanks.

Xarcell you will need go get back into fastboot mode for any of this to work. Try holding power + volume down for a long time until you get there (after turning it off with the method de0u described.

This should calm you down first which is most important in your situation. You most likely didn't break your 600$ device, don't worry!

Now you really need to find a solution for the installation machine as your Chromebook and Pixel 2 likely won't do the job.

I recommend finding a family member, friend or colleague with a somewhat modern Android phone and ask them to lend it to you for an hour. My experience is best when installing from Android devices, because you don't need to install any adb drivers first (which might be tricky to convince someone to do on their machine).

Good luck and let us know whether you succeeded.

I watched the video. At no point in the video do I see the power button being pressed continuously for 60 seconds.

Please press the power button continuously for 60 seconds. This is absolutely the next step to take.

After pressing the power button continuously until the device turns off, leave it off for at least fifteen minutes before deciding what to do next.

Meanwhile, this kind of boot loop is undesirable but does not indicate that anything has gone permanently wrong.

Edit: when pressing the power button continuously for 60 seconds, please use some clock to make sure that it's actually at least 60 seconds.

de0u The device reboots in 40 seconds regardless. I've held the button the entire time, until it reboots, nothing has changed.

Xarcell Another video of me holding the power button and releasing the the device turns off. However, it turns back on regardless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKWVY175fEI

What I see in that video is that the power button is held down starting at 0:14 and released at 0:48, which is 34 seconds. Is there a video in which the power button is held continuously for more than 60 seconds, no matter what happens on the screen?
