Ok, maybe idiot is more than a little pejorative... I shall call my new pixel 8 my noisy, demanding halfwit instead, mm'kay? I just murdered the monster that came with the phone and, I am slowly setting it up but, today (36 hrs after installing GOS) I got and still get notifications saying (paraphrased of course) "playstore attempted to send a notification blah blah..." and something or other " it can't live without allowing unknown apps to install..." yada yada and, a stern "we recommend allowing this" etc.

I hate notifications!/ However I shall concede a few are actually required. Grudgingly... My pixel 6 has never once exhibited such tantrums but, I entered an account email into playstore on that one. I also suspect my partial install of Droid-ify (emphasis on ify? Lol) and Aurora Store, sans a gobble account email address might be why I am being hectored mercilessly? (Again I may be being a teensie bit hyperbolic about notifications... Did I mention I hate them?)

My profound and limitless adoration is bestowed upon any and/or all who might lower themselves into the toxic cesspit I swim in, and set me straight. Forcefully is fine.

Excelsior!

edit: I should have included the notificationz are from GmsCompat about missing permissionz.

Short answer: give Play Store notifications permission as recommended, then disable the specific notifications you don't want in the Notifications settings.

While I remain curious as to causes, I am inclined to agree with you: I have since posting learned it is GOS advising I should grant the needed permissions. I'm still getting accustomed to the power I now wield, thanks to Graphene.

    Cheers!

Regarding causes, Play Store has special privileges in Android. GrapheneOS takes away these privileges, but in order for Play Store to function, you can't always just ignore the fact that it wants to do these things.

Hence the notification from GmsCompatConfig. It's telling you the Play Store wants to do something, and GrapheneOS is preventing it. Without that notification, you'd have no idea that Play Store was being prevented from doing something. GrapheneOS gives you the choice to allow it or not, but it needs to notify you somehow that your decision is required.

and notifications, I think with a long press, can show you which notification permission that notification is so you can fine tune the allowed notifications over time.

I got rid that way of a couple reoccurring notifications i dont want.
