I saw a post on Reddit where a graphene user said they were using Google assistant offline and not signed into an account. I gave it a go but had very little success. I downloaded the Google app and installed the offline voice package, gave it all sorts of permissions and regardless of whether I was offline or online I was unable to do anything except to turn the torch on and off. Has anybody successfully got this to work offline and not signed into an account to do basic things like send an SMS and make a phone call?

I got it working online, but I was logged in and downloaded from Google Play. It just won't work offline for me. I even asked the assistant if it'll work offline, and it told me "I do my thinking in the cloud so I'll be pretty boring offline." She was right. I can't even "call dad" or add to the calendar when in airplane mode. It also didn't work when I allowed it to respond with text instead of a voice.

No idea how random Reddit user managed to do it. Did they say how?
