I recently started using the Proton Mail PWA and noticed it needs a long time, like 5-6 seconds, to load my inbox.
Does anyone know why it's this slow? My other PWAs are way faster

FunnyDuck I think it needs to go to the server and retrieve your mailboxes metadata so it can present it to you. The native app has this data stored so it can present it directly and only go to the server to retrieve updates.
Do you have JavaScript JIT enabled? If so, disable it and it won't run as slowly.
Thanks for clarifying! I already suspected it was normal behavoir, but better safe then sorry 😅
I will probably go back to the app then, I don't want to wait so long every time to check my emails :(
ErnestThornhill I tried disabling it, but it took the same amount of time for me. I think the problem really is the download of data from protons website
Kinda weird that they don't save it in the installed PWA (if that's even possible), other PWAs I use start really fast, faster then the app in some cases (Mastodon and Standard Noted for example)
FunnyDuck That's odd. I've used the web version before and disabling JavaScript JIT always made it run faster.
FunnyDuck how do you use the PWA? I never get offered to Install app in Vanadium menu. And I have have been using it for quite a while...
[deleted] log in on the proton mail website while NOT using incognito mode. Then press the 3 dots top right and press "install" or "add to homescreen" and then install it.
I'm not using grapheneos in english so maybe some options have slightly different names

I only tested start up times once today with it enabled and didn't notice it being faster.
I think I needed to enable it the first time I logged in, but disabled it after that. I will enable it for some days, maybe I will notice a difference in speed after using it then (emails content loading faster etc)

Vanadium ➔ Menu (⁝
) ➔ Add to home screen ➔ Install
Here's a screenshot of what it would look like with the option to install ProtonMail after logging in to your inbox in Vanadium.
In the past, I recall that with some (rarely though) sites where I'd have switch to the desktop version of it and only then would the 'Install app' option appear in the menu instead of 'Add to home screen'. If it the website only offers to create a shortcut, then there is no PWA support.
FunnyDuck too much tinkering for a few seconds delay, especially when a whole bunch of services is loading including signing in over the web (not just mail). I wouldn't go for an app since I don't use Google Play Services (sandboxed) and I don't need notifications (Firebase only for now, or forever?). Sorry mods, no harm intended.
