Can I import SMS/MMS into the AOSP Messaging app?

With Signal removing SMS support, I am planning to use the stock AOSP messaging app instead (For multi-profile SMS). The problem is that all the other SMS apps I've looked at seem to have the ability to easily import my old Signal SMS/MMS. I can not find this option in the stock AOSP messaging app though. Is this possible?

inomfood If you import using another app it will be stored in the system SMS database and you can switch back to AOSP SMS. There are also apps that will just import to the system database for you. Signal is unique in that it is one of a few apps that stores SMS messages outside the system database.

I just did the migration yesterday and all went fine. Just follow the instructions of Signal, and select the GOS default messaging app

doffactory Perfect, thanks. I've just done this. I had expected a zip file of the messages from doing the export rather than being able to simply select an app. Just wanted to confirm that it would work before I put any of my message history at risk.
