I'm currently deciding if Google Photos is worth it. Are the features like Best Take, Magic Eraser and others available when using Google Photos on GrapheneOS? Which of those are available and or just do not work? And which of the features should be available on GrapheneOS that were announced at the Made by Google Event yesterday?

Magic Eraser doesn't need an internet connection to work, so if you have sandboxed Play installed you can install Google Photos, revoke the network permission and use it

shuzo I can't use magic eraser without internet connection, and I get this message "An internet connection is required..." This occurs with every photo I try to use magic erase. You could use Orbot or VPN to help obfuscate who you are. I don't even see Best Take as an option in Google Photos, so not sure it is even available?

(FYI: I allowed network access and could use magic eraser, but none of the other tools are there; so not sure if that's a limitation of GOS)

Bootlace1170 not sure if that's a limitation of GOS

No, it seems that's just how the feature works on Google Photos. The app has to download some stuff for it to work first, but after the initial download you can remove the network permission and magic eraser will continue to work.

other8026 Odd that's not the case for me. I just tested it. I allowed google photos to have network permissions, then was able to download whatever it needed and used magic eraser. I then revoked network permission, and took a new picture, and tried again the magic eraser and I got the same message "Can't install more editing tools; an internet connection is required." Seems for me to need network connection.

Edit I had google play services installed but without network access. Once I turn network access, then editor worked even with photos network access revoked. So clearly it needs google play services to be connected to the internet to work. So not sure if that means it is not really on on-device thing?

shuzo I just tested this. First you have to download these editing, so google photos needs a network connection. You can then revoke network permission (and as long as google play services has network access) best take completely works. So my assumption is all the other features talked about will likely also be available on GOS
