billinmtl At this time, we are using Signal - did not have any issues with SimpleX, found the UI a little buggy so hopefully things have improved over time
[deleted] billinmtl thank you mate, it's the messenger of choice I will be trying out in the near future as a Signal and the like alternative.
MoonshineMidnight lodart I have not really looked into SimpleX. I did a search on how well it protects metadata. This thread came up: https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/13u8e24/comment/jm73n49/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
n03mp1r3 MoonshineMidnight would this option to run messaging servers via Tor be sufficient? Basically proxy via Orbot on mobile... https://simplex.chat/blog/20220808-simplex-chat-v3.1-chat-groups.html#access-messaging-servers-via-tor
Bumwin3 lodart I like the concept of SimpleX, but app fatigue is real. I push as many uninformed towards signal as possible for simplicity sake, but being decentralized is a plus for sure and is the future of secure messaging. Sethforprivacy had a podcast with the founder of SimpleX worth a listen if you're interested. https://optoutpod.com/episodes/s3e02-simplexchat/
[deleted] spiral you don't seem to understand that this write up can be applied to any network enabled app and that all communication is encrypted. So I don't see it crushing anything.
Dangor Been using simplex from the very beginning, they push constant updates and improvements. Only problem is you cannot establish phone calls on grapheneos for some unknown reason
hyetta Dangor applesbana Maybe the problem is that SimpleX Chat seems to be using the installed WebView for the WebRTC video calls, see issue here: https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/issues/2368
Murcielago I've been testing it for a few weeks now. So far, it has made a very good impression on me in terms of usability.
PMUSR Is there a way to share "contacts" you have with others so they can be added by those? I cant find any public ID, link you can share. I can only share mine.
easthvan PMUSR Yes you can, only in case your contact that you wanna share is not based ona 1-time link but their semi-permanent SimpleX ID (if they created one and shared with you initially).
hyetta hyetta Tested the video calls and I didn't find any issues with them, they function as expected.
