Issues with NewPipe due to changes from YouTube
matchboxbananasynergy Even 0.27.1 has issues, just not for everyone. See https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/11191.
Sure, but they said "no luck starting a video", which implies an outdated version unable to extract the video, not the issue you linked where video extraction is still possible.
I have the same problem. Also with the new version 0.27. I uninstalled the app because it works with LibreTube.
YouTube have been tweaking, and a lot of 3rd party apps were failing, often reporting Code 403.
Update all that you can as many have caught up on the changes. Those that haven't are just a bit slow off the mark
I had the same issue and using this .. working so far
https://f-droid.org/packages/InfinityLoop1309.NewPipeEnhanced/
SilverCat38 stopped working 😑😑

Concerned_Citizen why are you still using newpipe when we have Grayjay, which is BY FAR the best player.
It supports all of the services at the same time (YT, rumble, odyssey, peertube and many others), it even supports the comments on rumble (which bravenewpipe doesn't), it has the great polycentric for a 2nd layer of e2e encrypted comment censorship resistance & harbor identities support so creators can't get censored anymore, across all of the services.
And it's backed by Futo. Which is great for privacy.

YouTube nowadays seems to be blocking tracker blockers faster than ever. The only way to come over it is to use the most recent version of the software - including NewPipe, but until when will YouTube continue this meaningless fight? No matter how hard or fast the developers work, if one day YouTube decides to require everyone a Google account to watch videos then software like NewPipe probably won't work anymore. For example YouTube is already asking people (anonymous or users who aren't logged in) to search for videos rather than showing recommended videos based on the accessing area.
[deleted] Right. The great thing with grayjay, is that all of the services (including YouTube) are implemented as plugins that are auto updated in the app.
And the developers are paid and working fulltime on it (thanks to Futo and also the 5$ "donations" the users can pay if they want, while the same app still remains opensource and free for everyone).
So we don't have to wait until some random app developer on the internet gets the time to rebuild his app with a fix.
DeletedUser201 its not open source, its source available. There is a difference.
Of course YouTube messed with the API again today and newpipe, freetube, etc, are down again unless you run through invidious. Grayjay is still working though.

Rasta9 Right, but it's VERY close none the less as they just don't allow commercial distribution.
It's much more than just source available.
The only limitation is basicaly : "You may use or modify the software only for non-commercial purposes..." , "You may distribute the software or provide it to others only if you do so free of charge for non-commercial purposes...".
Actually, it's an excellent license. Very short and to the point. Especially given the millions of dollars Eron Wolf (Futo) is spending to bring us all of these privacy focused apps for free.
Where can I find Grayjay? I coudn't find it in F-droid, Aurora and Neo store.
DeletedUser201 I didn't say it was a bad license, just not technically FOSS. Personally I support the source available model as developers should have more ways to monetize their software and make a living.
I can confirm the problem. Installed version 0.27.1.
The feed is loaded but individual videos can't be played. Instead, a window pops up saying “An error has occurred, see the notification.” The error message then refers to a “network error”.
