Hey all,

Background in case relevant:
After troubleshooting Google Play Services errors, I uninstalled/reinstalled the various components of Google Play Services and now I'm experiencing issues with a couple (non FOSS) apps no longer loading (immediately crashing upon launch). I fully troubleshot the impacted apps, uninstalled/reinstalled etc, but cannot resolve matters.

On to my question:
If I use Graphene's Backup feature, wipe the device, then restore the backup, is it possible these types of symptoms will transfer with the restore? Ideally the OS/Apps are reinstalled from stock rather than from my backup, but was curious if anyone knew offhand.

Thank you in advance!

In your situation, I would consider a factory reset overkill.

If there's apps that you're having issues with and you can't figure out what the configuration issue is, I would suggest creating a new user profile, and installing and testing the relevant apps there. You can think of the new user profile as a bit like a separate phone, since all of the user data is separate.

If you do factory reset, I would advise against relying on Seedvault which is the backup service currently included in GrapheneOS. It's unreliable, and there's a good chance you won't be able to restore your backup after a factory reset. I would instead encourage you to set up your apps again manually. But in any case, I don't think a factory reset should be necessary for what you're trying to do.

Thank you for the recommendation. Unfortunately, the symptoms are identical in a new/separate profile.

The impacted apps aren't super urgent so I'll just deal with it until I have the time to factory reset and set things back up. If anything, I may look at only enabling Google services on the 2nd profile.

Sorry to hear they also don't work in a new profile.

Out of interest, what makes you think that a factory reset will solve this issue? I would only imagine this might help if you've been tinkering with the settings or permissions of any system apps.

Have you tried working your way through the troubleshooting steps given here? https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/8330-app-compatibility-with-grapheneos
