I read somewhere, don't remember where, that github sponsors were the preferred donation method but is that true since I'm sure they have fees? I have access to a Canadian account to etransfer if that's "fee free" for GrapheneOS (which I think would be), or will get crypto since I'm sure the costs are less.

I just want a way to get the most mileage out of my donations to come and hopefully some clarification can help more people in the future decide where to donate.

P.S. I love you guys GrapheneOS, please never stop.

If you have a Canadian bank account, you can send Canadian dollar donations to the non-profit GrapheneOS Foundation via Interac e-Transfer to contact@grapheneos.org. The email address has Interac e-Transfer Autodeposit support enabled so no security question is necessary. If your bank doesn't support Autodeposit, set the answer to the security question to GrapheneOS.

freelancer Hey, first of all thank you for being willing to donate.

Most ways to donate are fine. Paypal is likely the worst when it comes to fees. We provide it as a method to donate for people who don't want to or cannot donate any other way, but if you have other methods available to you, those are fine to use!

freelancer DANG freelancer! You are right on!!
I donated through PayPal (U.S. $) and a huge overhead was deducted...... plus they periodically send me adverts to use their #@!*#! service. NEVER AGAIN!!

I'm guessing that GOS is loosing a lot of donations from the U.S. - especially "feel good today" IMPROMPTU donations - because there is no quick and easy credit card method. Couldn't one of the corporate supporters of GOS that is already processing credit cards donate link that'd use their bank to process cards and forward to GOS at minimal cost to everyone???

This brings to mind the possibility of snail-mailing a paper check to:
    Account holder
    GrapheneOS Foundation
    Account number
    8313560023
    Routing number
    026073150
    Account type
    Checking
    Wise address
    30 W. 26th Street, Sixth Floor
    New York NY
    10010
    United States
    Bank name
    Community Federal Savings Bank
    Bank address
    89-16 Jamaica Ave
    Woodhaven NY
    11421
    United States

So the question for GOS becomes, will this paper check approach get US $ to you with minimal conversion loss? This is a PITA approach and you won't get "off-the-cuff" donations that you'd get with a credit card, but at least people wouldn't feel deterred, trying to get money to Canada!

I donated a few days ago via crypto currency. I know it's probably not the preferred method, but it's what I was able to do fast, cheap, and somewhat anonymous. I also love the project. I think they do a great job, and it's important that this project stays alive.

Did @GrapheneOS already considered accepting Wise transfers ?
Honestly it seems pretty simple and since it is a widely used app, a lot of people would be able to donate in the right currency with very few fee.

Are there any websites that allow you to buy crypto with a debit/credit card and specify any wallet address (such as GrapheneOS's) as the recipient? I know that there is lots of "KYC" pressure (ID, video selfie, ...) on crypto firms, but maybe for smaller amounts (<$100 or so) some websites leave you alone and are happy with just the credit card number?
