  • What is the perception of Google Pixel and GOS in your part of the world?

I live in South East Asia. Google does not sell Pixels here so anyone who carries Google Pixel is considered a tech-savvy person or a nerd. No one knows what GrapheneOS is. My friends living in the EU told me that GrapheneOS and Google Pixels in general started gaining a negative impression due to them being the primary OS and Phone choice of criminals respectively.

Now then, what do people around you think about Pixels and GOS?

From the UK so Pixels are just normal.

GrapheneOS is estimated to have 2-300,000 users, so on a planet of roughly 8 billion people, the answer in any part of the world will pretty much always be: No one knows what GrapheneOS is.

    From the US:

I am an outcast for having an android. Not a single person in my regular circle (professional and personal) doesn't use an iPhone. Explaining graphene would be a step too far, they just know its a green bubble phone.

treenutz68 if I were you, I wouldn't call myself an outcast but a member of elite who is blessed with the ability to use a top notch security product and realize its value.

        From France :

The market share of the Google Pixel has increased since the Pixel 6 because Google started advertising it massively, but it's far from matching the market share of Samsung and the iPhone, users who want economical smartphones and don't care about the rest often turn to Xiaomi, Fairphone has won over users who care about reparability to reduce waste, which is laudable, but users are also fooled by Fairphone's misleading marketing about security and confidentiality.

Some people around me know about GrapheneOS because I've introduced the project to them and shown them the features. Like many products without massive publicity, many have probably never heard of it, so it's a bit of the same answer whatever the country.

That is certainly a nicer way to put it :)

But it does not accurately reflect how I feel amongst my group of peers when they see that green bubble! On a positive note, some have been receptive to downloading signal, but when practically everyone has iMessage, it is challenging to get many to see a benefit to another messaging app...

Not sure how many other users there are from my country. I've explained the benefits of Gos to a few of my family and friends but they either don't understand or don't care. They are all sheep to big tech. I turned messages off so the only way people can message me is on molly / Signal or email.

Pretty much this, GOS isn't widely known, but I take the opportunity to shill it wherever possible.

        France here
Nobody knows about GrapheneOS. Although I have been advertising quite massively, none has switched around me, even GDPR professionals.
