Keypad missing while call is in progress

Apologies (being honest) I have not searched for this ..

When I am on a call the keypad disappears and I am presented with an IM style screen. It says the other party can see me typing which, on its face, is false.

How do I disable this? Keypad is needed to navigate menus ..

Did some searching and still nothing .. but I did find a howto on graphenegoat's site that is .. extensive.

I once hit the button to see what it did, which resulted in a vague memory of what the screen looked like. If both ends invoke RTT then it is true that each side can see what the other is typing.

johnblue perhaps using a different phone app might help, like Dialpad.?
