KCne Thanks for the info. That's good to hear that RCS is being treated as priority by GrapheneOS. I stand corrected. I wish they had posted that information here. I guess the forum is not considered the most important communication channel?
floracapsule The fact that RCS group chats couldn't fall back to sms and I would have to get entire chat groups to delete and regroup is not workable for me.
It was explained to me in the Github issue thread for this problem, that the issue with RCS group chats not falling back to MMS is not specific to GrapheneOS. It's a problem in stock Android also. So it's Google problem. Of course, because RCS seems to work well on stock Android devices and at least some other Android devices (i.e. Samsung) one would not necessarily have to confront this problem.
Chhezesteak The step of updating Google Messages with Play Store fails silently. It seems to complete but then the same "Update from Play" button is back and the app is still the old version. Any ideas?

I think the problem you're having is that the version from the Aurora store is not signed with the same signature as the version in the Play Store, hence it won't update. The version people are using from APKMirror does not have this problem, because it is signed with the correct signature. Look for @Vuraze post (maybe about 400 or 500 posts up) about how to use that version to get things working. You will be able to upgrade from the Play Store.
5rlyn Is it necessary to downgrade GmsCompatLib with every version update?
I haven't had to do anything with GmsCompatLib. I was on version 16 (never on the version 101 that @GrapheneOS mentioned). With a recent update it change to version 163. But the work around with old Messages is still working as before. I'm not sure what's going on with your single messages, sorry, I haven't experienced that. I also don't see a way in the Graphene App Store to downgrade GmsCompatLib.
