TrustExecutor I know about the BFU state, the issue is our police (Russia) politely asks you to unlock your phone. And oficially you are not obliged to help them with this, but if you dont - they will try to cause all kinds of bureaucratic problems for you, or they will just push you psychologically, and after keeping you in custody for couple of hours they will probably free you even if they dont check your phone, but not everyone has couple of hours to get through all this, especially when plane is about to take off soon. So when police politely asks me to unlock my phone, and I have nothing to hide - you can call me a sheepie (and it is true), but I will prefer to not make it complicate for myself.

throwawaynickname part of the reason GrapheneOS even exists should be to help with these types of situations , in my opinion anyway. Protecting yourself from an agressive state isn't being a 'sheeple', its what you gotta do.

longshots Yes, I thought about this, but I have too many useful things configured in my current device, and I dont want to migrate them because that would be painful.

I said it in another thread, but I wish it was easier to clone profiles, store them securely online, delete them from the devoce, and reinstate them when safe to do so. Should be a robust feature built in to GrapheneOS if you ask me.

Maybe make a second profile, and disallow it from installing new stuff? Then when they politely ask you to unlock your phone, you unlock this dummy profile and hand it over. They can do whatever they want, then you just delete the profile when you get your phone back

You'll want to have at least some basics set up like a throwaway email with some newsletter subscriptions, an SMS app with a few conversations, a few phone calls to random local businesses, etc. If they ask why it looks so bare, just say you like to keep your phone tidy or that you just bought it or something.

Is there a way to physically obstruct the usb port? Some kind of tight-fitting metal band that goes around the phone might do the trick. I don't know how you'd key it though.

WhatonEarth OP already stated they don't want complications with the police so that is not a good solution here.

I applaud the sentiment though.
