what is the projected lifespan as far as security updates for the pixel tablet? im finding the speeds to be slow ( downloading updates) while hotspoting to my 7a (beta)... but im still getting situated i switched it to beta , hopefully the speeds are better off hours';/...newpipe works great, im pretty psyched

Both 7th and 6th generation Pixels have a minimum guarantee of 5 years from launch. 7th generation Pixels are a year newer so they have an extra year of their guarantee remaining.

The Pixel Tablet is a tablet variant of the 7th generation devices and the Pixel Fold is a hybrid phone/tablet. These share the same SoC and are nearly the same as the other 7th generation devices under the hood.

So you can expect support 5 years (from release) with probably some further mitigating security patches for a while after, but GrapheneOS can't fully support a device after Google stops updating it.

Mac is probably your best bet. I would stay as far away from Linux as I could. Depending on your use case and what you need, maybe even a base install of OpenBSD would do you good. Maybe install Graphene on a Pixel Tablet.

sobersick Linux. I run Debian on my servers and Arch on my machines, 2 laptops, 1 tower and 1 mini PC which is used as a multimedia device connected to a TV by HDMI and used with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

I know 🙃 .. But win 10 with memory integrity on and proper firewall I suggest simplewall or portmaster .The best in windows is that you can run dual boot win 10 and dont need extra licence .. And yes graphenos on desktop would be very nice surprise!

sobersick as you can see, recommendations come in all forms and flavors. If you want more specific advice, I recommend you tell us more about what you do on your desktop and what you want to protect.

It's already there, at least in Beta on Gen 8 Pixel devices. The forum user OutlawSanZhang made an extensive guide here if you want to try it. I'll personally wait until it's out of Beta. There will probably be more devices to choose from by then (Pixel Tablet 2, Pixel 9 etc).

Desktop mode is still awful and full of bugs. Hopefully it will be released officially with Android 15. It looks pretty good in the Android 15 beta.

Personally I will probably stick to ChromeOS and perhaps try to transition slowly to GrapheneOS with MTE after desktop mode is released. I seriously doubt that Pixel Tablet 2 will be released anytime soon, considering the news of a re-release without the dock. It will probably be 1+ year, if it will ever be released.

If they're actually being targeted by resourceful criminals I think that it's very irresponsible to recommend Linux (even QubesOS), based on my actual experiences.

In love to know your experience of what happened with QubesOS here. It should be pretty bulletproof if you do things properly. Its like a weave of interconnected virtual computers, it neither is Linux nor is nothing like any other monolithic Linux distro.

Fjygjhg I really agree with this statement. I would even include the BSDs (even OpenBSD) in the list. Most of these systems (even OpenBSD) was never designed from the perspective of Defense-in-Depth and (At-Rest) ..

longshots I can't give you technical details of how it happened. All I know is that they managed to do it. As I wrote, I'll gladly give anyone access if they can help me find out how they managed to do it.

Anyway, it shouldn't really be a surprise to people here. The previous lead developer of GrapheneOS pointed out how insecure desktop Linux is before. As did multiple other people on this forum. My actual experiences having Linux compromised multiple times? Last time was just a few months back. If you're not being targeted as an individual you can ignore this advice. Linux will be fine for someone who is not being targeted.

I'll gladly give you access to my system if you're a security professional or if you know someone.

Just echoing what a handful of others have said, GOS on a Pixel Tablet is a pretty decent daily driver for email, chat, etc. I have a nice BT keyboard to go with it. I used to do the same with LOS and Samsung tablets but now that GOS has a long-term-supported tablet in the stable I'm demoting the Samsungs to duty as digital picture frames.

I have a dedicated workstation (Debian) for dev and heavy-duty work. I wouldn't try to do dev work on any tablet.

mmmm Unfortunately I don't know exactly what happened. I'd love to find out, but I haven't been able to get into contact with someone who can help. The police previously arrested the guy for something else, but they don't seem to have the resources for this.
