Sorry, you may be saying only 2 things are aesthetic, to deal with looks, sure that may be true. However everything else other than battery charging, and I'll get to that in a minute, are convenience features you are talking about!
Set system data in the status bar? Pleas power button to toggle flashlight? Status bar won't be used for these things, you can hut a few buttons and find this info. Don't be so lazy and make this a make or break feature! Flashlight? That is the one quick setting tile that works without unlocking your phone in GrapheneOS! Set it to be at the top of quick settings so you only need to wake screen and swipe down once!
Tabs opening in background? Open them in same group instead, or just switch to them immediately. Change your workflow or adapt. You can do that, its within your power! Boggles my mind why some people are so inflexible... For battery, get something like AccuBattery, or BatteryGuru, and use the charging alarms. Or do what I'm doing, build GrapheneOS yourself!
So far I've implemented system-wide adblocking, and temporary root, with a locked bootloader the whole time, that I can sideload on, and off without data loss. Battery charging control is next, as is full backup of all app data without root. I'm in the long run replacing all things I used to do with root, with a build that just works without root being necessary at all!
That's also an option for you. Overall, read the features page on the GrapheneOS website again. most of the features are not user facing, so you won't even notice them! you are benefiting without even realizing that you are! This is in very stark contrast to a ROM like CalyxOS or LineageOS, which is all about the features that they can pile on for the user, without regard for the actual security or privacy implications. Those ROMs I would never consider again! I spent about a week on each, evaluating them after I was experienced with GrapheneOS, and my conclusion was never ever think they are a substitute for what GrapheneOS is trying to do!
Those OS comparison websites you see? They do not even scratch the surface of the differences between these ROMs. The other ones (except maybe DivestOS, but that's really a harm reduction project for anyone who can't run GrapheneOS, (even its developers state as much) are completely on a different track. They have less security than the stock OS due to incorporating features with no regard to the underlying code and increased attack surface it brings!
Not at all like what GrapheneOS does!
