Hi, I'm using GrapheneOS on a Pixel 8 and I'm very happy with it overall, but I have a problem with audio playback, which always stops after about 10-12 minutes.

I have already edited the energy settings of the affected apps (e.g. ByteFM app, DLF Audiothek, Spotify) and activated background usage and allowed unlimited battery usage of the apps. Unfortunately, this measure does not work and any playback with these apps stops after a few minutes.

I would be pleased to hear of any possible solutions. Thank you in advance and best regards

vonseydewitz Which GrapheneOS build? Have any developer options been enabled? Do the interruptions happen via Bluetooth, or also via the built-in speakers? Do they happen on both cellular data and Wi-Fi?

Thank you very much for your feedback!

    • At the moment, Built 2024040900 is installed. However, the problem has been occurring for several weeks.
    • The developer options are activated. However, no settings have been changed there. I only temporarily activate USB debugging to transfer data via MacDroid. However, USB debugging is then deactivated again.
    • The crashes occur both during playback via Bluetooth and via the built-in speakers.
    • Both playback via WLAN and via cellular are affected

Does this help you? Thank you very much for your help!

I think this has been a busy few weeks for the GrapheneOS team in terms of fighting upstream regressions, but I think things are settling down. So this might not be a good time to be running an older release. And even if the issue persists on the latest, I suspect the developers would prefer to debug it there instead of on the older release.

vonseydewitz I suggest that you start by disabling Developer options completely, then reboot. I suggest you also do a system update and then try again.

Thank you! I'm on the stable update channel. Now I have installed build 2024042200. The developer options are deactivated and the device is restarted. Unfortunately, audio playback (e.g. in the DLF media library) stops again after approx. 10 minutes. Is there anything I can do to isolate the problem or provide more information about the problem?

      Thank you already!

Don't know about the other apps but Spotify used to cut out on me when the phone went to sleep, even on downloaded playlists, I had to go into data saver in settings and set unrestricted data for Spotify on.

Got the same problem with Jellyfin. I'm on Build 2024052100 on Pixel 6a.
After 5-10 minutes the app stops playing audio.

      Developer Options are off.
"Background Usage" is activated in apps battery settings.
"Unrestricted Data Usage" option is activated in "Mobile Data Usage" Settings.
"Mobile Data usage in background" option is activated in "Mobile Data Usage" settings.

Usually im on wifi when this happens.

I am experiencing similar playback issues. I usually play long track loops continuously. With PlayerPro, I've recently seen 1) audio reported to be playing when it actually isn't, and 2) single short tracks being reported to play for many hours at a time, when in fact they are "stuck" and not emitting any audio. This seems to have gotten much worse in the past month or so.

Currently on build 2025031400 on a Pixel 8a.
