Hi guys. I recently purchased pixel phone and found some stock features really useful. Even though I bought it to only install graphene right away and was informed on a loosing some stock features, I’m still hesitant to get rid of it. Is it supported on GOS or is there any way to download it/or alternatives?

Another question I had for a long time is if it’s possible to copy text from the photos on a default app? I suppose I need Google Photos for this functionality.
Sry for such a noob question, just trying my hard after abandoning IOS system)

DrantaRAT Android Open Source Project doesn't support some of the features that you're referring to, so they're not available on GrapheneOS. Other features come from apps, but Google apps are usually installed as privileged apps on other OSes (like the stock OS), so they expect/require special permissions to work, which they cannot get on GrapheneOS.

So, some features work if you install the correct apps and grant them certain permissions. Other features just don't work.

Yes, this sounds like something Google Photos would support, but I haven't personally tried it.

I have installed Google Photos in a profile with sandboxed Google Play. When you swipe up in Google Photos, the option "search inside this photo" appears providing the following options:

    • copy text
    • search
    • listen
    • translate

If you click on one of the options, you get an error message "Something went wrong. Google Lens is not available". If you then install Google Lens, the error message continues to appear. Opening Google Lens an error message indicates that you also need to install the Google app. That was a little over the top for me just for testing so i stopped there.

    In short:
It seems that you have to have at least

    • sandboxed Google Play
    • Google Photos
    • Google Lens
    • Google

installed to be able to use Google's Copy text and its other features.

Thank you so much for clarification! So, the only solution is going all Google (for photos), and circle to search is basically a proprietary stuff that won’t be implemented into GOS. Hope one day there will be an alternative))

DrantaRAT you can just us the google assistant, by setting the google app as the digital assistant and then if you swipe from the bottom edges it will open and it will give you a button that says something like 'search on screen' if you press that you have basically the same as circle to search, but without circling, so it will use the complete screen but you can change the selection later.

What it does is basically opening a screenshot in the gooogle lens app

I discovered a method to launch "Circle to Search" on GrapheneOS with a single action. I would prefer a fully open-source alternative to this utility, but for now there doesn't seem to be any viable alternatives.

      Steps to Enable:

      1. Install the Google App
-I installed from the sand-boxed play store
-Only network access permission is required
      2. Set Google as the Default Digital Assistant (In the system settings)
      3. Install MiCTS
-This is an open source app available on GitHub
-It is intended for rooted devices but in this case works to launch the CTS activity
        -This app requires no permisions
      4. Configure a Shortcut with Key Mapper to the MiCTS app
-I used key mapper available from F-Droid
-I assign a simultaneous press of the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to MiCTS

Now if there is text on the screen to copy, I can quickly extract it. Hopefully these steps help someone looking for a way to enable this feature. I have confirmed that it works on both my phone and tablet.
