  • Does Aurora Store Auto update itself?

I can't find this info anywhere or in the settings, does someone know if Aurora Store 4+ updates itself automatically or at least notifies you of new versions?

Good question, I have the same. I suppose not, as it only pulls updates from Google Play?

Long story short: No, not really.

      Long version:
There have already been discussions about the Aurora Store in this forum.
But when I participated, the topic was whether how to integrate it into Obtainium or whether to actually use Aurora.
And because Aurora seems to offer the possibility to update itself, I had written there that I don't try to integrate it further into Obtainium, since it can now update itself (there is a submenu for it).

But I have never seen such an activity. In other words: The update function does not seem to be working.

Today I was very curious because two versions have been available for download on the Aurora developers' website for a few weeks now: AuroraStore-4.4.2.apk + AuroraStore-4.4.3.apk.

For testing the update function I have deinstalled the newer version and deleted it from Obtainium.
Then I have downloaded the older version AuroraStore-4.4.2.apk manually.
But after installing and setting up all including the self-update function nothing happened.

      Sorry, misunderstanding.
It's not about the apps that you can download there, but about the Aurora Store app itself.

      But to answer your questions:

      Limitations

Underlying API used is reversed engineered from PlayStore, changes on side may break it.
      Provides only base minimum features

Can not download or update paid apps.
Can not update apps/games with Play Asset Delivery

Multiple in-app features are not available if logged-in as Anonymous.

      Library
      Purchase History
      Editor's Choise
      Beta Programs
      Review Add/Update

Token Dispenser Server is not super reliable, downtimes are expected.

Eagle_Owl Thanks for your answer. I have 4.4.3 and for the life of me I can't find this self-update menu anywhere! Where do you see it?

          flighty_sloth
I apologise for confusing you and perhaps others with my answer. :-(
When I wanted to look up the menu path to the self-update function for you and write it down, I couldn't find it myself in v.4.4.3.
I couldn't understand why I no longer see this menu in v4.4.3, so I installed v4.4.2 again on my other Pixel Phone.
Conclusion: The developers have secretly removed the self-update function!

So: in v4.4.2 (or a little earlier?) this function was added and removed again in v4.4.3. :-(

            Update:
In the meantime (27.04.2024) version 4.4.4 was released and Aurora Store now handles the Aurora Store app as all other apps there:
In other words: it lists the Aurora store app like all other apps and if there is an update, it depends from your settings for updates, what should happen:
            – Don't update automatically
            – If there is an update, only notify me
            – install available updates automatically

            8 months later

In my case running GrapheneOS on Pixel 8a, the Aurora has never automatically updated itself nor it has been visible as an app within itself. I've installed it by downloading the .apk from GitLab releases.

According to the changelog regarding the version 4.6.2:

Added auto update for Nightly builds

Meanwhile yesterday I manually updated the Aurora Store app to v4.6.3 only to receive a notification from the Aurora app itself about a possible update to v4.6.4. Unfortunately when I hit the Update button the process ended with "Download failed".

I'll update manually and hope soon it will be able to update itself successfully.

            Update:
The 4.7.0 has been available for few days but the app hasn't updated itself nor has it showed the available update.
I've updated manually and will follow up.
